Green Roofs were developed thousands of years ago and have continued to gain in popularity. On 2001 Heinz 57 Center was the 1st vegetated roof in Pittsburgh. According to Velazquez, Linda “ Heinz 57 Center was closed and neglected for about 14 years starting in the late eighties. Now it has been restored in a sustainable beautiful way and completed on the fall of 2001, the Heinz 57 Center the 1st vegetated roof in downtown Pittsburgh”.

One of the famous green roofs were the Hanging

Garden Of Babylon. This green roof was build with

and extensive. Extensive green roofs have thin soil

and less number of layers, hence is less in weight,
