    Dear Friends,

Now that I have spent over a quarter of a century devoting mycareer to the fight against eye tumors, I have witnessed how thesediseases drastically alter the lives of patients and their families.

When I realized that there was little educational information andsupport services available for my own patients and others, I knewwe had to create world-class resources for all patients with eye

    cancer: The Eye Cancer Network.

In 1998 my dream came true when I established The Eye CancerFoundation. Since that time we have provided reliable informationand genuine support. That support has come from other patients,

for they truly understand what it is to have eye cancer. Sinceinception, The Eye Cancer Foundation has grown to become theleading non-profit organization dedicated to serving the needs ofeye cancer patients worldwide. We have served millions of patientsaround the world.

Thank you for visiting our newly enhanced web site! See all thesuccessful research projects we have supported. I encourage youto support our continuing efforts. Make a difference in the lives of

patients, offer others the gift of sight and the gift of life.

    Sincerely,Syed Abid GilaniChairman

Karwan Development Foundation (KDF) started operations in2005, initially on a need-based approach to help the people ofKashmir who had been severely affected by various disasters. Inthe years from 2005 to 2010, the Founders of KDF worked on acompletely voluntary basis using their own resources and funds

from family and friends to provide relief and financial support to anumber of small communities in Kashmir.

During this time, the Founders of KDF realized there was a need

to create a formal structure to scale up the operation to addressmore communities (including communities outside the Kashmirarea) and a larger number of beneficiaries. They also realizedthat the support they had been providing needed to be organizedinto specific program areas led by capable program managers andstaffed by competent development professionals. This led to the

formation in 2011 of a professional, legally-registered entity thatnow forms the basis for the current organization.

WATER PROJECTSKDF has established water supply schemes in areas where waterresources were being wasted or channeled into the river rather thanbeing mobilized for utilization by the local community.

Karwan has taken the initiative to channelize the water springs inKashmir, so that water can be collected at one place in the commu-nity for drinking and daily usage. Four water supply schemes havebeen constructed in district Muzaffarabad & Hattian in Kashmir. These schemes resolve the problem of drinking water for 4,300 peo-

    ple in four villages.

Three tube wells have been installed in village Zaramina & MianIssa of Nowshehra. Over 2,000 people are getting benefit of thesewells now.

TREE PLANTATION PROGRAMWe conducted plantation campaigns each year since 2011in Muzaf-

farabad, Nowshehra and Islamabad. We believe that the planting ofa tree is the planting of new hope.

Muzaffarabad was the first location where we started plantation. This was to preserve the environment and beauty of the mountainsthere. KDF involved the enrolled orphans, volunteers and Agricul-ture Department, Govt of AJK in this initiative. Collectively, wemanaged to plant 1,550 trees in communities and in schools like

    SOS Village, Muzaffarabad.

In Islamabad, Karwan has managed plantation campaigns withdifferent like-minded organizations and volunteers. KDF planted500 plants in Ali Trust School and 650 plants in H-10 sector near

FAST University. CDA provided the plants and supported in iden-tification of plantation areas.

In Nowshehra, tree plantations were effective in reducing the im-pact of floods. KDF planted trees on the bank of river Kabul in a vil-lage of Nowshehra as part of a risk-mitigation activity. 3,650 trees

have been planted in the last three years with the help of the localcommunities and Forest Department, Govt of KP.
