Academic Program
KSL : A SEAT OF GLOBAL LEARNING
Kathmandu School of Law was established in 2000 AD in affiliation with
Purbanchal University, a public national university. Ever since the inception,
this institution has been led by an effective management body and compo-
site teaching personalities, motivating the center for effective learning,
innovative practices and substantial researches. Dedicated to maintaining
high standards of academic excellence, Kathmandu School of Law is an
institution pioneering in the field of legal education and the first legal
institution of its kind in Nepal to start a formal BA LL.B legal education
program. It marks a paradigm in shift in modern methodological teaching to
generate future leadership in the field of law and justice through this
institution and the social engineering it inhibits. It keeps its firm
commitment to serving the students from diverse background to seek quali-
ty and competent legal education in the country. Its prime objective is to
address the need of an academically sound and practically feasible legal
education in Nepal.

Asia Pacific Masters Program (International Masters - One Year Course)
Clinical Legal Education is a core pedagogy of teaching and learning at
Kathmandu School of Law. Introduced since its establishment, the clinical
approach has been instrumental in socializing the legal education into a
form of justice education. Moreover, the program has been instrumental in
de-insulating the legal education system in Nepal. As of now, the clinical
pedagogy has matured to transform the traditional pattern of legal educa-
tion into a socially responsive legal education and developing critical mind-
edness of young lawyers. Nepal has been a pioneer in developing clinical
legal education program in South Asia.
Initiatives by KSL have ushered the legal education in Nepal into a new
paradigm. One of the milestones of modernization relates to innovation in
Nepal to de-insulate the legal education by introducing a package of stu-
dent centric pedagogies, launching Clinical Methods of teaching. The resi-
dential campus of KSL at Kavre provides a perfect platform for our stu-
dents to learn through our indigenous clinical approach.
CLINICAL LEGAL EDUCATION
Kathmandu School of Law - Policy and Legal Research Center;
was established for extensive policy and legal research activities with
objectives to bring academia, policy makers, sociologists,
anthropologists , chologists, economists and researchers at a common
platform develop ideas and conduct comprehensive research. Cen-

RESEARCH DEPARTMENT
Kathmandu School of Law Research Department has
rigorously focused on research and divulging students
and professionals from different fields in various re-
search studies and works. The core idea behind the
department is to develop and foster academic research
among students and faculties. Students are required to
complete their research courses as a compulsory credit
course which is handled by the department.
INTERNATIONAL LAW AND RELATIONS STUDY CENTER
International Law and Relations Study Centre (ILRSC) works
as an independent think tank within the institution which is re-
sponsible for international programs and collaborations. It has
been holding intra mural moot court rounds for various competi-
tions and corresponding with various international universities
for exchange programs and other activities as well. It also under-
takes the responsibility of conducting optional classes for begin-
ners to disperse the basic notions on international law and inter-
national relations. It aims to grow through trainings, researches,
exchange programs, moot court trainings. The prime objective of
the centre is to build interested students of KSL as sound intellec-
tuals in the field of international law and relations.

KSL POLICY AND LEGAL RESEARCH CENTER
MOOT COURT ROOM
Kathmandu School of Law has a well fur-
nished courtroom for simulation exercise and
practical training.. Moot court practice has
evolved as one of the important methods of
teaching law. This approach significantly helps in
departing from conventional approach of legal
education. Mooting is one of the regularly con-
ducted activities for KSL students. This moot
court room has been dedicated to learned Judge
Sh. Lava Dev Bhatta.
COMMUNICATION CENTER AND POLYCOM TECHNOLOGY
LIBRARY
The Library of the school is one of the most extensive and well
equipped law libraries in Nepal. It includes about 30,000
books and resource materials including monographs,
research reports, journals, periodicals, and other unpublished
documents. The main feature of our library is a collection of
information under 44 different headings from newspapers
since the year 2000 AD.
HUMAN RIGHTS AND CRIMINAL JUSTICE CLINIC
Kathmandu School of Law has started a “Human Rights and
Criminal Justice Clinic”.
The Clinic has two departments:
Victim Legal Aid Department;
Prisoners’ Legal Aid Department.
The Clinic provides legal aid service to the needy people along
with mobilization of students and faculties in research activities,
documentation, client handling and engaging in court procedures.
The Clinic focusses on areas like criminal justice, human rights,
access to justice, good governance apart from other activities of
the Clinic. Law students are also engaged as interns, young advo-
cates and legal officers along with experienced practicing lawyers
for overall practical training.
SALIENT FEATURES
Kathmandu School of Law has been the centre of excellence in terms of participating and
organizing various international programs. With the advancement of technology and realizing
its growing collaborations with international institutions, KSL has established a fully
equipped Skype Center and Polycom Technology. The centre provides an avenue for the
college to strengthen its international collaboration in the coming days.
The major activities to be carried out by this Communication Center and Polycom Technology
are:
online conferences and meetings with other organizations within and outside Nepal,
arrangement of viva for foreign students and arrangement of online classes,
online discussion forum to interact with the national as well as foreign scholars,
professors and other dignitaries.
It also helps in strengthening our communication with foreign universities such as
Chittagong University, Bangladesh, Korea University, South Korea, Ehime University, Japan,
Renmin University of China Law School, China, and G.G S. Indraprastha University, India
FORENSIC LAB
Kathmandu School of Law has
constructed a forensic lab with the pur-
pose of helping students to understand
importance of forensic science in law. This
laboratory is used specially by the students
pursuing Masters in Law with the speciali-
zation in Criminal Law and Justice under
the subject of Forensic Science and Medical
Jurisprudence.

International Residential School on
Economic, Social and Development
Rights (ESDR) Program
The prospect of good governance can
be enhanced by promoting economic
and social rights along with civil and
political rights. The protection and pro-
motion of human rights is inseparably
related with the good governance and
devolution of power and vice-versa;
KSL has been organizing residential
programs for students and interactive
dialogue of professors on economic,
social, development rights and good gov-
ernance. This has been transformed
into a platform of interaction for law stu-
dents and professors from around
the world. The platform provides an
opportunity for young law students
and teachers to deeply understand
the significance of economic, social
and development rights in context of
South Asian region in order to ad-
dress the problem of exclusion of vast
majority of population in the region.

Kathmandu School of Law (KSL) in
partnership with University of Sydney,
Australia has been conducting two
weeks course on Law and Develop-
ment since 2010.
The field school program aims to
acquaint students from University of
Sydney, regarding the Nepalese legal
system, and approaches to under-
standing the complexity of develop-
ment, drawing on international law
and Nepalese law, as well as on disci-
plines such as human geography, envi-
ronmental and urban studies, econom-
ics, peace and conflict studies, religion,
history and politics. The course also
explores various critiques of develop-
ment. The curriculum explores a range
of inter-connected themes, starting with
the transition from conflict to peace
after a maoist insurgency and the end
of the monarchy, and efforts to
draft a new constitution and build a
new political and legal system.
Clinical Legal Education
Program
The clinical legal education program is
integral component of the B.A. LL.B
course and is proportionately distrib-
uted throughout five-year. Enhancing
the standard of legal professionalism
in Nepal is an underlying goal of clini-
cal approach of teaching and learning.
Hence, students are engaged to inten-
sively debate on the role of lawyers in
fostering a culture of social responsi-
bility within the profession
The clinical legal education framework
of Kathmandu School of Law empha-
sizes the education of social justice. As
a matter of fact, it helps students to
emerge as social scientists by engaging
themselves in the process of structur-
ing and restructuring of the society
and its values. The students are taken
to residential field visits and are
trained practically to deal with social
issues after becoming lawyers.

12th Winter Residential School on Economic Social and Development Rights was held from 24th October 2017 to 13th November 2017.
Residential Exchange Course on Democracy and Logic was hosted by KSL, Nepal for stu-dents of FIMT, India from 29th May – 5th June 2017 and KSL students visited India at FIMT from 8th to 17th January, 2018 for exchange course .

Standard and have appeared or cleared class 12th Exams
or ‘A’ Level Exams are eligible to apply.
2. College Transcripts: Please attach a copy of all official
transcript received from school and college you have at-

fax cannot be accepted. Original mark sheets must be

application, an entrance examination will be carried out

INSTRUCTIONS
Application Form (10%)
10% evaluation will be done by the question answered in the applica-tion form by the applicants.
Written Exam (40%) Part 1
20% evaluation will be done through English and Nepali Language Test (Subjective and Objective Questions) (100 Marks)
20% evaluation will be done through Objective Type General Knowledge and Legal Reasoning Test (50 Marks) – The questions will be based on current affairs, legal issues in the country and basic under-standing of logic and law
Written Exam (20%) Part 2
20% evaluation will be done through class based exam wherein two professors will take 2-hour class each and then the applicants have to take a two-hour exam based on the discussion and teaching in the said classes (50 Marks)
Focus Group Discussion (30%)
30% evaluation will be done through basis of focus group discussion. In this applicants will be segregated into small groups and will be given different topics for discussion and debate floor will be opened for the applicants to speak.
