THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE!You spoke and we listened! We have begun working to modernize and expand to continue to provide everyone — regardless of age, income or background — the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive.

• Addition of a second group exercise studio, featuring the latest health and wellness programs like HIIT, Tabata, P90x, Insanity and more

• Retrofitting the group fitness studio for mind & body classes and for active older adults

• Relocating Spinning to a dedicated, highly visible studio

• Relocating the tumbling center to expand kickboxing, martial arts and preschool gymnastics

• Relocating and expanding the Youth Zone

• Expanding and remodeling the Wellness Center

• Full Welcome Center and Cafe lobby renovations to make room for more small group gatherings.

We plan to remain open during these renovations and will continue to work hard to serve your health, wellness, and family needs! We anticipate the renovations will be complete by the end of April.

Thank you in advance for your patience during this exciting time!

GraceKelly says learning how to swim isn’t an option for her 2-year-old daughter, Grace. “We have a pool in our backyard and it’s scary,” says Kelly. She enrolled Grace in the Infant Swimming Resource (ISR) program at the South Tampa Y. The ISR program literally saves lives by teaching infants as young as six-months-old how to survive should they fall into a body of water. Grace started ISR when she was 19 months old, “The progress she’s shown to this point is just phenomenal,” says Kelly. She plans to continue Grace in refresher swimming courses. Hillsborough County regularly ranks among the highest counties nationally for drowning cases in children under the age of 4. That’s why the South Tampa Y is fully committed to drowning prevention programs, like ISR, to ensure not one more child drowns in Hillsborough County.

LIVESTRONG at the YMCA®

LIVESTRONG at the YMCA® is a free 12-week, small group program designed for adult cancer survivors. This program fulfills the important need of supporting the increasing number of cancer survivors who find themselves in the transitional period between completing their cancer treatment and the shift to feeling physically and emotionally strong enough to attempt to return to their normal life or their “new normal.” The program is conducted outside of medical facilities to emphasize that LIVESTRONG at the YMCA is about health, not disease. Our goal is to help participants build muscle mass and muscle strength, increase flexibility and endurance and improve functional ability. Additional goals include reducing the severity of therapy side effects, preventing unwanted weight changes and improving energy levels and self esteem. A final goal of the program is to assist participants in developing their own physical fitness program so they can continue to practice a healthy lifestyle, not only as part of their recovery, but as a way of life. In addition to the physical benefits, the program provides participants a supportive environment and a feeling of community with their fellow survivors, YMCA staff and members. YMCA fitness instructors work with each participant to fit the program to their individual needs. The instructors are trained in the elements of cancer, post rehab exercise and supportive cancer care.

YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP)YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program helps those at high risk of developing type-2 diabetes adopt and maintain healthy lifestyles. The Tampa Y now offers a 16-session program developed to reduce the risk of diabetes in individuals with pre-diabetes. Each weekly session is facilitated by a trained lifestyle coach. The sessions will cover nutrition, physical activity, and behavior modification to help participants achieve two primary goals: • Reduce body weight by 7% • Participate in regular physical activity

Pedaling For Parkinsons®

The new program uses high-cadence cycling to forestall the progression of the disease, alleviate many symptoms and even reduce medication. Results vary due to the broad range of Parkinson’s symptoms, but extended periods of forceful exercise have positive effects. For Parkinson’s patients, these can include reduction of tremors and dyskinesia, as well as cardiovascular benefits, increased leg strength, and better balance and core strength. Participants share a common bond in a socially supportive environment.Find out more — contact Melissa Brockman at [email protected]

DID YOU KNOW?38% of kids are glued to the “screen” more than 2 hours a day? As the largest provider of youth sports programs in the metro area, the Y does its part to keep kids active.

YOUTH SPORTSThe YMCA is your one-stop shop for high-quality youth sports programs. We invented basketball, volleyball and racquetball, and since 1889 we’ve been offering athletics for youth and adults. Our programs focus on building sports skills while simultaneously building character, values and encouraging teamwork.

Tumble Tykes (parent involvement, 2-5 years old)This parent/child class is the first structured class available to young gymnasts. It is a shortened version of Tiny Tumblers with the added comfort/assistance of parent involvement. This is the perfect option for those seeking structure but not quite ready to attend class by themselves. Parents work with child on forward rolls, backward rolls, cartwheels, handstands, etc. to best prepare them for the transition to their first structured, non-parent involvement class (Tiny Tumblers). This class also helps parents to understand the mechanics of basic gymnastics and specifics coaches look for to indicate that a child has fully mastered a skill. Tumble Tykes is a great stepping stone for all athletics, as it teaches air awareness and hand-eye coordination. Fee: $50 for members, $90 for non-members Days Times (30 minutes) Tuesday/Wednesday 9:15-9:45 a.m. Thursday 4:30-5 p.m. Saturday 8:40-9:10 a.m.

Tiny Tumblers is the first structured class offered without parent involvement. Fine and gross motor skills are developed while introducing basic gymnastics skills on vault, bars, balance beam, floor exercise and trampoline. Theme based lesson plans serve to increase balance, coordination, strength and confidence while keeping learning engaging and fun! Fee: $70 for members, $110 for non-members Days Times (50 minutes) Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday 4-4:50 p.m. Tuesday/Wednesday 10-10:50 a.m. Monday/Thursday 5:10-6 p.m. Saturday 9:20-10:10 a.m. and 10:30-11:20 a.m.

Kindergym (3 & potty trained–5 years old)This class is designed as an alternate, more progressive class for preschool age children. Those achieving all of the required skills in Tiny Tumblers are eligible. Advancement notice or coach recommendation required. Fee: $80 for members, $120 for non-members Days Times (1 hour) Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday 4-5 p.m. Thursday 5:10-6:10 p.m.
