The advantage o an individual sport is all o the blame is on you. I you do something bad, its not anybody elses ault. Thats why you

hear golers complain about the course all o the time: because there is nobody else to blame ailure on. Benjamin Cooper (10).Myavorite club is probably my our iron, because when I was a reshman I made a double eagle on the par fve eighteenth hole at the Lincoln

Trail country club. The par fve was 500 yards and my shot was rom two hundred. Double eagles are the rarest shot in gol; theyre less

common than hole-in-ones. It was defnitely the coolest thing Ive done in gol. Breckinridge Stodghill (11). You always have a

teammate to pick you up ater a bad hole. It really helps with the mental aspect o the game.Andrew Marquardt (9)

    Years of experience 2 years

Best score (Over 18 holes): 98

    Reason to start playing:

My dad recommended it to me

because gol has lots o lie lessons,

like the importance o honesty and

    perseverance.

Goal: Shoot in the 30s (over nine

holes) by senior year and get a gol

scholarship to a college like Harvard.

    Funny incident: My brother and

I used to play. He was going to do a

drive, but he hit the tee instead o the

ball and the ball went straight up and

landed right where the tee was.

    Years of experience:2 years

Best score (Over 18 holes): 75

Reason to start playing: My dad

has always played and he seemed

to enjoy it a lot, so I thought Id try it.

When I did I immediately loved it.

    Goals: Attend University o Kentucky

and try out or his sophomore season.

    Years of experience: 12 years

Best score (Over 18 holes): 68

    Reason to start playing: My

mom got me into gol at 16 months

old. She gave me a small plastic

hammer and a rubber ball to hit

    around.

Goal: Get a scholarship or gol

to a college like the University o

    Kentucky to help with tuition.

Funny incident: I got what I call

    a Mulligan hole-in-one when I was

six. I was out with my coach on a par

3 and hit a shot but missed; he told

me to pull out another club and hit it

and it went straight in the hole.

their year looking at college prospects, f nding inspiration rom amily, and laughing at a ew bloopers.

Reason to start playing: My dads hobby

is gol and he wanted me to try it out with my

    brother and mom.

Goal: Join the Olympics in 2016 and get a

    gol scholarship in college.

Funny incident: At the end o a nine-hole

game, we were going to the main area; I was

standing on the back o a gol cart dragging

my pushcart with my clubs in it and it ell

three times, so I just let go. I would have just

    allen with it.

Years of experience:Less than one year

    Years of experience:9 years

Best score (Over 18 holes): 100

    Reason to start playing: My

cousins were doing it and everything

they did, I wanted to do. Over time,

they drited away but I stuck with it.

Goal: Play at Florida A&M (despite its

    male-only team), or Spelman College.

Funny incident: I killed a bird once

and my dad was making un o me.

He said, Are you going bird hunting?

When I went to go to my ball, it was

    near a puddle o eathers.

There is an I in team

    Urooj NasimBen Oppenheimer (10), Benja-

    min Cooper (10), and Benjamin

Flanigan (11), swung or the lowest

score possible on the gol course,

but then aimed or the highest

score on their baseball teams in

    the spring.

    Working with dierent types o

    swings didnt aect Coopers game

on either sport. Theyre both op-

posite swings, he said, so I dont

    really see a dierence.

    But or Oppenheimer and Flani-

    gan, the dierence was noticeable.

    Flanigans gol swing negatively

    aected his baseball swing more

    than the other way around.

There was this one time that I

    had difculty bringing my baseball

swing back into rhythm, he said.

    Freshman year ater gol season

was the only time I had trouble. It

took about our or fve months to

    get my swing back.

    Benjamin Flanigan (11)

    During practice one day

I hit a ball and it went

    left. Way left. It bounced

    through the parking

    lot and landed in the

    backseat of a convertible.

I had to run and get it

    really quickly before the

    guy came back.
