What’s in a Name?
Locals here embrace Kenosha’s richhistory and celebrate it along withvisitors through acclaimed
museums, vintage streetcars, treasuredhistoric districts, and lighthouses.Early Native Americans originallynamed Kenosha Kenozia, which means“place of the Pike.” In the ensuingyears, the area was named Pike Creek, and then Southport when it became anotable Great Lakes shipping port. In1850, one last change gave Kenosha— both city and county — theircurrent title, a modernized version ofthe early Kenozia.
