Kerala Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), Trivandrum, was established in 2002 as a center of excellence in medical care and post graduate medical education. Within two years of starting, National Board of Examinations (NBE) recognized the merits of qualifications of our faculty as well as the excellent facilities of the hospital and granted permission to start DNB in Cardiology and Radiology. Within a span of 14 years, we have become one of the largest private Post Graduate Medical Institutions in the country with 21 departments having Post Graduate programes.

We firmly believe that continuing medical education (CME) and research activities

are building blocks for better patient care. We conduct regular International, National and State level CME programmes with credit hours of Travancore-Cochin Medical Council and provide immense support to faculty members and students in carrying out various research activities. This report gives detailed department wise account of the CMEs, publications, paper presentations and participations in various conferences. It also gives a brief account of the speciality training/courses offered and hosted by KIMS to International students. We are very happy that SOCOMER acted as a catalyst in improving the quality of medical standerds in our institution.

CONCLUSION

During the year under report, SOCOMER conducted two International CME programmes, five National conferences, five State level conferences and 97 internal CMEs. Sixteen doctors presented papers in various International Conferences, 81 doctors in National conferences and 78 doctors in State level conferences. KIMS doctors authored 40 articles in various International, National and State journals (online & print) and chapters in books in 2017. As a part of the International Academic tie ups, doctors from five countries underwent specialty training in various Departments of the hospital, three students from Royal Army of Oman Joined the ECG and TMT Diploma Course, and a delegation from Royal Army of Oman made an official visit to the hospital in November 2017.

24. INTERNATIONAL ACADEMIC TIE UP

24.1. Irkutsk State Medical University, Russia

Dr. Markova Maria, Dr. Pushkova Nadezhda, Dr. Krivolapov Aleksei and Dr. Shotnikova Anna from Irkutsk State Medical University, Russia, underwent specialty training from 30th January 2017 to 12th February 2017 in various departments of KIMS Trivandrum.

24.2. Roosevelt High School, USA

Dr. Meghna Mallapan from Roosevelt high school, USA, underwent specialty training from 17th July 2017 to 21st July 2017 in the department of Infectious Diseases.

24.3. UAE College of Medicine & Health Sciences

Dr. Khoula Ahmed Mohamed Saleh Basahel from UAE College of Medicine & Health Sciences underwent specialty training from 17th July 2017 to 13th August 2017 in Internal Medicine and Emergency Medicine departments.

24.4. Medical University, Sofia, Bulgaria

Dr. Aswathy Biju from Medical University, Sofia, Bulgaria, undergone specialty training from 7th August 2017 to 12th August 2017 in Internal Medicine department.

24.5. Exeter Medical, UK

Dr. Vyshnavi from Exeter Medical, UK, underwent, undergone specialty training from 7th August 2017 to 1st September 2017 in Cardiology Department

24.6. Royal Army of Oman

24.6.1. Joining of students for Diploma in ECG & TMT Technology

Mr. Ismail Mansoor Abdullah Al Adawi, Ms. Asia Said Khalfan Al Harthi and Ms. Basama Abdullah Sulaiman Al Shuraiqi from Royal Army of Oman joined the Diploma in ECG & TMT Technology course in October 2017.

24.6.2. Official visit of Delegates from Ministry of Defence, Oman

A five member delegation from Ministry of Defence, Sultanate of Oman, visited KIMS on 6th November 2017 for discussing about the feasibility of starting a few more courses for Royal Army of Oman.
