Kerry Park Islanders supporting Cancer Research

While most junior level hockey teams have one pink in the rink night, where they support breast cancer awareness, this year the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League’s Kerry Park Islanders will have eight. For the entire month of October, Kerry Park will wear pink and lavender jerseys at home games. The decision came from Islanders Owner and General Manager Mark Osmond as he wanted to honour his sister- in-law, Dawn Cleasby, who lost her battle with cancer in June of 2011. “We (Mark and his wife Denika) decided that we wanted to wear the jerseys in memory of her and her battle” Osmond said. Along with wearing the pink breast cancer awareness jerseys, the Islanders also fundraised for this years Tour De Rock. Islanders players took turns riding stationary bikes outside of Thrifty Foods over 1600$ for Cops for Cancer, Assistant Coach Robb Webb took part in the ride. Webb, along with over Vancouver Island RCMP Officers rode from Port Hardy, the Northern tip of Vancouver Island, to Esquimalt, the southern tip of the island travelling over 1000 kilometres over 14 days.
