Welcome Key Clubbers, to the first edition of the third volume of the Key Club Hub. Allow me to introduce myself. I am

Trevor Wood, your newly elected editor for the 2014-2015 service year. I am a sophomore, and new to the Key Club Board, but I am excited to be a part of it. In this issue you will find information about the new service year, and the events that your Key Club has done.

Yours in Caring and Service,

Trevor Wood

From The Editor

The New Service Year

April marked the beginning of a new service year. Each service year begins and ends at District Convention. But do not worry! The end of last service year does not mean the end of Key Club or the end of all the fun. Many exciting events will still be held throughout the remainder of the year, and you are encouraged to get involved in as many events as you can.

Elections were held in March for the positions of president, vice-president, treasurer, secretary, and editor. Information about the new board can be found at the bottom of this page.

In addition, please give a thanks to your former board for all the hard work they have done to make the 2013-2014 service year great.

District Convention District Convention, or DCON, is

an annual event for the entire Key Club District of New Jersey. It is such a fun event, where you have the opportunity to learn about Key Club, while having fun and hanging out with your friends. There were many great speakers and activities, including workshops and dances, to keep you entertained throughout the weekend.

This year was the 68th annual DCON, and it was held from March 28th to 30th, at the Ocean Place Resort and Spa in Long Branch, New Jersey. Each year is represented by a theme, and this year it was Service Around the World. Every division was represented by a country, and ours was Singapore.

At DCON the new district board

for the 2014-2015 service year was elected. Our new Lieutenant Governor for Division 19 is Bobbie Boettinger, and our new District Governor for NJ is Samantha Levisay.

There were also a number of contests and awards at the convention. In the talent show, Livingston had four performers: Zoe Schwartz, Gianna Scheskowsky, Lauren DiFalco, and Emily Nevola. Gianna won 4th place and performed in front of all the Key Clubbers at DCON. While our very own Emily Nevola won first place in the essay contest and read it aloud to the entire assembly. All five board members won the distinguished officer award as well. In addition, Livingston Key Club member Tuba Farooqui won a gold member award for her outstanding participation in Key Club.

Livingston High School Key Club

won recognition for its active service. We won the Big Ten Award for increasing membership by ten percent, the Early Bird Dues award, and a plaque for hosting the 2013 Regional Training Conference.

Intergenerational Prom

Each year, Key Club Hosts the Intergenerational Prom (I.P. for short) where the senior citizens, and high school students can come to dance and have fun. This year was the 26th annual prom, and the theme was “You Are My Sunshine.” Intergenerational prom is one the mandatory events for Key Clubbers to participate in, and it is also lots of fun. It is one of the largest events that the club runs, making it all the more exciting. The Key Clubbers, who helped with the prom, did a variety of things. From setting up the tables to serving food, meeting lots of the senior citizens, dancing and listening to music, there was never a boring moment.

Thursday April 24, was the Shine a Light on Autism event at the Gazebo on the oval.

This event helped to raise awareness in the community about Autism. Everyone in attendance showed their support by wearing blue.

The evening started with a speech from Livingston Mayor Michael Reiber, and was followed by live music and a walk around the oval while carrying lanterns and glow sticks to turn the oval blue.
