When is Ramadan: Ramadan is traditionally marked by the sighting of the crescent moon on the ninth month of Hijri / Islamic Calendar. This year, it is most likely to fall on Monday, May 6, 2019. However, as mentioned earlier, it can only be confirmed after the Maghrib prayer of a previous day. What is Ramadan all about? Ramadan is regarded as the best month of the year for Muslims as it was the month in which the Quran was revealed to the prophet Muhammad (PBUH) on the night of Laylat Al Qadr. “The month of Ramadan (is that) in which was revealed the Quran, a guidance for the people and the clear proof for guidance and criterion. So whoever sights (The new moon of) the month, let him fast it, and whoever is ill or on a journey - then an equal number of other days. Allah intends for you ease and doesn't intend for you hardship and wants for you to complete the period and to glorify Allah for that (to) which he has guided you: and perhaps you will be grateful.”
Surah Al-Baqarah 2:185 The annual observance of Ramadan is considered as one of the ‘Five Pillars of Islam’ . What Muslims do in Ramadan
Muslims observe fasting during the whole month. Adult Muslims are required to fast from dawn to dusk every day throughout Ramadan. In addition to abstaining from eating, drinking, and smoking, Muslims also refrain from sinful speech and behaviour. Muslims pray Taraweeh every night for 30 days, after Isha prayers. Ramadan is a period for Muslims to rehearse self-control, patience, and compassion for those less privileged Basic Ramadan etiquette During Ramadan, Muslim countries practice the following etiquettes (even for the non-Muslims)
No eating, drinking, smoking in the public during fasting hours
