Special Education Teacher at St. Teresa School. I am here to help you in any way that I can! I look forward

to meeting each one of you and learning about you! Did you know that

sometimes at St. Teresa, we have school wide dance parties in the

hallways? They are so much fun! That’s just one example of the fun we have

together. Can’t wait to meet you!

Hello Everyone,My name is Ms. Metcalfe and I am lucky

enough to be the library technician at St. Teresa! I will be reading you many

fun and exciting stories over the course of the year, and will help you

become familiar with the library learning commons. I will also be there to help you find many wonderful books that you can take home and enjoy with

your families! I look forward to meeting you all and sharing so many

wonderful books with you.

Hello Everyone,I am Ms McDonald-Reis. As your School

Social Worker, I am able to help support your family with challenges that you may be

facing. I am able to help connect you to supports and services in the community. All support can be flexible to meet your needs, and can include telephone or virtual contact if necessary. Please be in touch with your

child’s teacher or the School Principal should you like me to reach out to you.

A way to get involved in your child’s school community is by joining the St Teresa’s Parent Council. If you

St. Teresa’s Catholic School Advisory Council

Formal written report cards that communicate students’ learning and their next steps for school and home.

• First report sent home in late October/early November. Called Initial Observations. Year One parents are offered an observation time in the class in November. Year Two parents are provided with an evening interview. Reports on Religion and Family Life and how your child has adjusted to Kindergarten life.

•• Term 1 Report sent home in February. Reports on all 4 frames,

Religion and Family Life. Parents can request an interview following it being sent home.

• Term 2 Report sent home last week of June. Reports on all 4 frames, Religion and Family Life.

Communication of Learning

Throughout the year, you will receive from the classroom:• Monthly calendars • Newsletters• D2L, TwitterDaily, your child will take home a Communication Folder. In there, you will find special papers from the classroom and the office. Please check it daily. Also, inside will be a booklet or a log for communication back and forth.Your educators are always available to speak to you by phone or in person.

Communication Throughout the School Year

School begins at 9:20 a.m. and ends at 3:50 p.m.

Your child will experience the following during their school day:✔ 2 snacks and a lunch time✔ 40 minute block of outdoor play (‘recess’)✔ Whole group instruction (carpet time) and small group exploration

(centre time)✔ Lots of opportunity for free play inside and/or extra outdoor time!

Your child will also participate in:✔ Weekly library visit and book exchange & computer time✔ Monthly school assemblies (they will also lead some assemblies!)✔ Monthly Masses and special events throughout the year.

A Typical School Day / Week / Month

Two snack times – morning and afternoonLunch (after outdoor play)

To assist your child with growing their independence at school:• Please package all separately and speak with your child about what

they should eat for first snack (always their healthy snack for morning snack), lunch and afternoon snack (perhaps their treat).

• Teach them how to open and close their reusable containers.• Water bottles filled daily

*Please send in NUT FREE food **Peanut Butter substitutes are also not permitted at school.

Safe Arrival and DismissalSafe Arrival • Children gather in designated area.• Parents must stay with your child until supervision begins at 8:50 a.m.• Children enter classroom when the bell rings.• Extended Day students must be signed in by parent/ guardian upon drop off

to the program.

Safe Dismissal• Bus Students – Children are escorted to their buses by an educator.• Walking Students – Parents/Guardians/Siblings will wait outside of the

Kindergarten area for an educator to dismiss the walkers. ONLY people on our list will be allowed to pick up your child.

• Extended Day Students – an educator will escort children to the extended day classroom.

First Day of School VisitTo introduce your child to their educators and become familiar with their classroom. During your 30 minute visit, we will:• Complete a little activity• Take your child’s picture for our classroom• Chat to get to know each other.• In August, you will receive a letter from your educators indicating who

they are and the time of your classroom visit.

**If your child has any health concerns or critical medical information (i.e. asthma, allergies, etc.) please inform Mrs. Lavigne by calling our school’s main office at (519) 743-2131 as early as possible.

• Big school bag! • Please avoid the ones with the wheels due to the

stairs we use when entering school.• Lunch bag with snacks and lunch (reusable

containers are great!!)• Reusable water bottle• Indoor shoes (with velcro fasteners for

independence)• Change of clothes

• Label EVERYTHING!
