We arefinalizing plans for the spacenow and will truly have aworld class building whereour kids will not onlycomplete high school, butalso be able to come back tofor college and career adviceand support. While ourbuilding is being construct-

    ed, we will be in a tempo-rary location. The DOE hasdetermined that M.S. 195(our location last year andwhere KIPP Infinity isbased) is the best buildingfor our kids during thistime. That being said, westill have to get through aseries of hearings, before thelocation is finalized. In thispacket, you will find more

    detailed information aboutthe dates and what supportwe need from you. Weknow that moving is notideal, but we have managedto have great success andresults over the past twoyears and know that this willcontinue wherever we go as

    through the year and alreadystarting to plan for Finals,Regents, end of the year trips,and more! Before we knowit, we will have juniors

    beginning the college processand a whole new group offreshmen joining our team andfamily.

    In this packet, you will findyour childs report card alongwith other importantInformation. As we nearRegents and Finals time, it isvital for you to stay on top ofyour childs grades andcontinue to push them to seek

    the support they need to besuccessful in their classes. Asour sophomores know, thesecond half of the year is soimportant as it determinesplacement for next year,eligibility for Fall sports, andso much more. Pleaseencourage your child to getthe help they need and makesure they attend our Saturdayreview sessions throughout

    the spring. As we havementioned before, we havetutoring available beforeschool, during lunch, and after-school. Please reach out tous if you want more infor-mation.

    Secondly, it is that time ofthe year againtime to planfor our end of the year trips!

    This yearstudents have theopportunity to apply forend of the year trips.Freshmen will be returningto Puerto Rico and sopho-mores will begin the votingprocess soon to determinetheir location. Applicationsfor both the trips will beavailable after break tostudents and will be dueFriday, March 25th. Weare still finalizing dates andlocations for the trips as weneed to plan around theRegents (whose dates havenot yet been released by theDOE), but plan to go at theend of June for both trips.We are thrilled to be ableto offer these opportuni-ties!

    upcoming events is thefinalization of ourpermanent space. As youknow, we have spent thepast five years workingwith the DOE to find aH.S. building that meetsthe needs of our kids. Wehave spent many hours in

    It is a busy time for studentsin algebra because semesterone just ended and thestudents took their midterms.As we wrap up the firstsemester, many students andparents should be very proudof their improvements.There were many difficultconcepts this semester such

    as, inequalities, factoring, andfinding area of variousshapesand studentsdemonstrated theirunderstanding with a 14-pagemidterm. As we moveforward we will continue tobe challenged with newmaterial, but we are ready!

    As a last word of advice,please encourage yourchild to get help as thematerial gets more difficult,do not wait until they arebehind to seek help fromteachers.

    Global 9 students will bemoving across the globe tobegin their study of Centraland East Asia. This is usual-ly a very challenging unit forthe ninth graders; as theyhave very littlebackground knowledge topull from and they tend tohave some difficulty withthe vocabulary.

    Please encourage your child tostudy vocabulary and seek extrahelp as needed.

    Students in English I will begintheir fourth unit, The UnlikelyPlaces One Finds Friendshipthrough study of The Boy in theStriped Pajamas by John Boyne.With the start of the secondsemester, the department iskeeping the momentum we built

    towards midterm week forstudents to retake the CollegePrep path by practicing realreading that leaves evidence in their

    annotations, writing withurgencyto express theirpowerful ideas aboutliterature, anddemonstrating theirpositive character duringthis journey. In addition,English I will also be

    incorporating a typedweekly written responseto the assessments for thissemester.

    Heres to a fabulouslyproductive second semester!

    Ms. Richardson is availablefor tutoring each day at 7:30a.m. or at 4:40 p.m. Stu-dents should always remem-ber to complete reading and

    attempt to complete home-work in order to make thetime in class most effective.

    In Spanish II, students reached a hugemilestone in January when they began stud-ying the past tense. With the tools now

    available to them to talk about currentevents, future events, and past events, stu-dents will begin the second semester with afocus on describing not just their daily lives,but the world at large. Our biggest pushright now is to encourage each other to askand answer questions in Spanish and speakin Spanish as much as possible. So dont beafraid to askQu pas en la clase de es-paol hoy?

    The Deans of Students at KIPPNYC College Prep, would like to thank all parents and students who have been responsive toour safety expectations. Safety is an integral part of our daily success. As parents make sure you are on your children aboutgoing straight home after school. As students it is important to make sure to communicate with your parents if there is achange of plan in the schedule. If you have any concerns never hesitate to call and ask for help. Knowing what times the

    students are dismissed is an important part of the process. Here are the weekly dismissal times.

    We thank you very much for your support and faith in keeping everyone emotionallyand physically safe and look forward to hearing from you.

    Safety is something that happens between your ears, not something youhold in your hands.

    The athletic commitment at KIPP isMonday through Friday and someSaturdays. Please talk to your child

    about whether or not they are willingand able to make this commitmentprior to signing up to tryout.

    SAFETY T IPSFROM THE DEANS

    Before we know it spring trainingwill be upon us. This spring we areproud to offer baseball, softball, andoutdoor track.

    Tryouts will begin on Monday,March 7 for our spring sports. Therewill be also be a mandatory meetingfor all students that want to be on aspring sports team on Friday, March4 at 3 p.m. Students that sign up forone of our three teams must comeprepared on Monday, March 7 with

    sneakers and KIPP athletic apparel to tryoutfor the team. Practices will take place oncampus and across the street at Franz Sigal

    Park.

    Teams will be announced by Friday, March11 (with the exception of baseball, whichwill be announced on March 18). Studentsmay drop out of tryouts on Friday, March11. Once they have been selected for one ofour three teams, the expectation is that theystay with their team for the entire season aslong as they remain academically eligible.

    ADVANCED MUSICWITH MR . GIVLER

    The Advanced Music Class is learning to use Sibelius, music notation software. With a solidfoundation in harmony and written notation, these students are beginning to compose and perform their own works. Look
