The photos of music and sports club teams are now available for ordering. Photo samples have been posted on the display boards outside the school office for reference. Order forms are available at the school office. Please note that a completed form together with a cheque should be sent to the school office by Monday 6 June if you would like to order photos.

Dentist Visits

On Wednesday 1 June, classes will start their annual trip to the dentist. Please look out for the letter sent recently outlining the dates for these visits so you know which day your child will need to bring their toothbrush to school! The dates for 1W, 4M & 5M have been rescheduled due to a clash with our CPD Day on 10 June. These dates are on the first page of this newsletter.

New classes

Teachers in Y2 and Y4 have been working on the class mixes for next year. As you may know, in their six years at KJS children have the opportunity to work in three different class groups. This helps to extend friendships and build community across year groups. It also enables us to ensure that the balance of abilities are equal across year groups and the social dynamics in each class better facilitate teaching and learning. Teachers have criteria to work through and the process is extremely thorough. Our starting point is to ensure that children have at least one friend of their choosing in their new class. Your support is gratefully received during this process - please remind your child that the change in classes is normal for school and that it offers them new opportunities. Play times and collaborative work across year groups will ensure they still have opportunities to be with former classmates. New classes will be shared before the end of term. As we have already taken the students’ choices we are unable to accommodate parent requests.

Please remember that all library books should be returned to the library by June 8th.

Last week Geet performed in Oliver Twist! Set in London in the mid 19th century, Geet reports “with the costumes that we wore, it made me think about my Unit of Inquiry about how the past influences modern day.”

I was delighted to hear that Hannah competed in the SportScene Gymnastics competition earlier this m o n t h a n d a c h i e v e d wonderful success. In her category Hannah was all round champion, f loor routine champion AND third runner up in the trampoline

section! Well done Hannah!

Alex has had some impressive success in Mathematics competitions this year. In the Nan Fang Cup International Maths Competition he received a Certificate of Merit in both the preliminary round and the final of the Nan Fang Cup International Math Competition held by the Hong Kong Mathematics Olympiad Association. He also received a 2nd Class Honour certificate the Seventh Hong Kong Maths Open 2016 competition held by the Red Square Education Centre.

Don’t forget that we are also keen to hear when your child has demonstrated one of the Learner Profiles out of school. The Learner Profiles are: Inquirers, Knowledgeable, Thinkers, Communicators, Principled, Open-minded, Caring, Risk-takers, Balanced, and Reflective. We believe that these profiles are the qualities of a truly internationally minded person.

Please ensure emails sent to share these successes are titled Student Achievement.

Help Fight Hunger in Hong Kong - a call for ACTION.

We are Vidhi and Dhaani from Year 6 and we are doing our exhibition inquiry about poverty in Hong Kong. We have found out that over 18% of people in Hong Kong do not have enough money for food or for rent and 1 in 5 people in Hong Kong are living in poverty.

As part of our exhibition we would like to take action to help combat hunger in Hong Kong. We would like to donate food to a non- government organization called Feeding Hong Kong. This is an organization which gives food to those in need, and connects with other organizations to help fight the issues surrounding poverty.

If you are interested, we would really appreciate it if you could donate some food. We are looking for foods such as: canned vegetables, canned fruits, biscuits and crackers, cooking oil, dried noodles (non-instant), dried pasta and milk. You can donate from 30th May to 8th June by placing the food items outside the school office in a box labelled “Group 42 - Poverty, helping to feed Hong Kong”
