The photos and descriptions on these pages illustratethe basic types of Klein harnesses. Most Klein harnesseshave leg, seat, chest, and shoulder straps made ofnylon webbing to distribute impact forces of a fall overthighs, pelvis, chest, and shoulders.

1. Fall-Arrest Harnesses have a fall-arrest D-ringattached to the upper middle of the back. Klein offersfour styles of this full-body harness.

The 87020 style harness has seat, chest, shoulder,and leg straps and a waist belt with friction-stylebuckle, designed to distribute impact forces of a fallover thighs, pelvis, waist, chest, and shoulders. Thisharness can also provide a positioning function byadding a Klein positioning belt, which inserts throughspecial belt loops on the harness backstraps.

The 87074 style harness is designed for workers ontransmission towers and other elevated sites. It has anUltra-Hyde™ lined waist belt and leg straps designedto distribute impact forces of a fall over thighs, pelvis,waist, chest, and shoulders.

The 87140 and 87141 Klein-Lite® style harnesseshave lightweight polyester seat, chest, shoulder, andleg straps. The 87140 harness has leg straps witheasy-connect hardware. The 87141 harness has legstraps with tongue buckles.

Types of Klein Harnesses and General Rules for Their Proper Use

Klein manufmanufactures a full full line of of Occupational Occupational ProtectiveEquipment (OPE). When using the A-B-C Rule, theharness becomes a B component of an OPE systemfor fall protection. Klein harnesses are designed toarrest free falls and distribute impact forces over thighs,pelvis, waist, chest, and shoulders as required byOSHA. In addition to fall-arrest protection, many Kleinfull-body harnesses have features which permit addi-tional OPE applications (e.g., positioning, suspension,retrieval, and/or ladder-climbing) in selectable inte-grated units.

Workers who use Klein OPE harnesses must beinstructed on how to use each harness correctly. Icorrectly. Icorrectly naddition, they must read, understand, and follow all

instructions and warnings contained in this catalog and any warnings or instructions attached to and/orpacked with the product and all other tools, devices,and equipment before each use.

Each Klein harness is equipped with either a durable,plastic card warning packet or a tear-resistant Tyvek®k®kmaterial label permanently attached to the harness. Thepacket or label provides detailed information regardingthe use, care, and inspection of the harness, along withan inspection-recording grid, the manufacturer’s name,system size, model number, and year of manufacture.Klein ToolsToolsT ’ toll-free telephone number (1-800-553-4676) is also provided for easy user access.

Introduction – Harnesses2. Fall-Arrest/Pall-Arrest/Positioningositioning Harnesses have a ffall-arrest D-ring attached to the upper middle of the back andpositioning D-rings attached to each side. Klein offerssix styles of this full-body harness. These harnessesare designed to hold a worker in place while leavinghis hands free to work, and include seat, chest, shoulder, and leg straps.The 87810 style harness includes an integral positioningtool belt with a tongue buckle and Softee™ Pad.The 87820 style harness includes an integral positioningtool belt with a friction buckle and Softee™ Pad.The 87080 style harness has Ultra-Hyde™ lined legstraps and an integral positioning tool belt with Ultra-Hyde™ lining and a tongue buckle.The 87830 style harness has cushioned body andshoulder pads and features an integral positioning toolbelt.The 87144 and 87145 style harnesses have lightweightpolyester construction. The 87144 harness has legstraps with easy-connect hardware. The 87145 harnesshas leg straps with tongue buckles.

3. Fall-Arrest/Retrieval Harnesses have a fall-arrestD-ring (attached to the upper middle of the back) andtwo retrieval D-rings (attached to the harness shoulderstraps and seat, chest, shoulder, and leg straps). Kleinoffers two styles of this full-body harness.

The 87090 style harness has an Ultra-Hyde™ linedwaist belt and leg straps. The 87840 style harness canalso provide a positioning function by adding a Kleinpositioning belt, inserted through special belt loops onthe harness backstraps.

These harnesses are designed for retrieval of a workerfrom a tank, manhole, shaft, tunnel, or other confinedor non-confined space.

When used in accordance with OSHA 1910.146 Permit Required Confined Space procedures, the rearfall-arrest D-ring may also be connected to retrievalconnecting devices that meet OSHA standards.

4. Fall-Arrest/Suspension all-Arrest/Suspension Harness has a fall-arrestD-ring (attached to the upper middle of the back), andtwo attached suspension D-rings (positioned in thelower front portion of the harness). Klein’s 87012 styleharness is a parachute-type, full-body harness withleg, seat, waist, chest, and shoulder straps, and itincludes a V-sling V-sling V suspension connecting device.

This harness keeps the worker in an upright positionwhen the V-sling V-sling V is held taut. The V-sling V-sling V and front D-rings on the harness are for suspension purposesonly and are NOT to be used for fall-arrest.

5. Fall-Arrest Suspension Harness with Bosun’sChair features a fall-arrest D-ring (attached to theupper middle of the back), a suspension D-ring(attached in front), and an integral suspension chair(Bosun’s chair) for extra comfort in normal use. Klein’s87044 style harness has leg, waist, chest, and shoulderstraps that distribute fall-arrest forces over thighs,pelvis, waist, chest, and shoulders.

6. Fall-Arrest/Pall-Arrest/Positioning/Retrieositioning/Retrieval Harnesses havea fall-arrest D-ring (attached to the upper middle of theback), two positioning D-rings (one attached to eachside), and two retrieval D-rings (one attached to eachof the harness shoulder straps). Klein's 87850 styleharnesses have leg, seat, chest, and shoulder straps,and an integral positioning/tool belt with tongue buckle.

These harnesses allow for retrieval of workers from tanks, manholes, or other areas where retrieval may be required.

When using any Klein harness, always follow the A-B-C rule. Seepages 6 to 11 for details.

7. Fall-Arrest/Positioning/Suspension TreeTreeTTrimmer’Trimmer’T s Harness features a fall-arrest D-ring(attached to the upper middle of the back), two posi-tioning D-rings (one attached to each side of the belt),and two upward-facing suspension D-rings (attached toeach side of the harness seat straps).

Klein's 87891 style saddle harness also features leg,seat, chest, and shoulder straps, an integral position-ing/suspension saddle-style belt with tongue buckle,and a Softee™ back pad and seat straps.

This specialized harness, designed for tree-trimmingprofessionals, meets ANSI Z-133.1. Know and followANSI Z-133.1 guidelines before using this harness.
