My Brother Knights,Congratulations to our new 2nd degree Knights,

Bob Jaconi and Tom Pleasanton. They took their 2nddegrees October 18th at St. Polycarp in Smyrna. Bobtransferred to our Council as a 1st degree from Florida andTom is a new Knight having made his 1st and 2nd degrees.Tom was sponsored by Deacon Bob McMullen. WelcomeBob and Tom.

November will be a very busy month for ourCouncil, starting with the fund raiser on the 10th at UNOChicago Pizza. Remember to turn in the coupon whenpaying your bill and UNO will donate 20% to the Knights.

Another fund raiser currently underway is theshotgun raffle. Be sure to get your tickets to sell from anyof the Council officers. The winning ticket will be drawnDecember 2nd at the Council meeting.

Our social in November will be a Memorial Massheld at Holy Cross Church on the 18th at 5:30pm. Wewould like to have a good showing of Knights and theirfamilies at this Mass.

The 4th degree exemplification will be held on the20th. Any 3rd degree Knight who has been a Knight for atleast 6 months is eligible to become a 4th degree SirKnight. See me if interested.

While on the subject of the 4th degree, theNovember Assembly meeting will be held on Tuesday the23rd because of the Thanksgiving holiday falling on thenormal meeting night. Happy Thanksgiving!

The Sunday morning breakfast will be heldNovember 21st after the 7:30 and 9:15 Masses. Supportyour Council by volunteering to help with the breakfasts.Contact Gerry Gilson if interested in helping. If you

cannot help, at least treat yourself and your family tobreakfast after Mass. Where else can you get a great mealfor only $5.00 each?

We had the Columbus Day Dinner to honor ournamesake on October 9th. Everyone seemed to enjoythemselves as shown in the photos elsewhere in thisnewsletter. A huge "thank you" to all that helped preparethe food, set up, and clean up afterwards. It was very muchappreciated.

We are working to replace the sign at the entranceto the Columbian Home parking lot. The present woodensign is weathered and has seen better days, and It will bereplaced with a decorative block sign.

The lifeblood of any organization is theirmembership. Out of 276 members in our Council we onlyget an average of around 20 to 25 at a meeting, some timeseven fewer than that. That figures out to be only 10%participation and less are actively involved in supporting orattending the various functions and events held by ourCouncil. If it wasn't for some of our wives andColumbettes helping out, we would really be in sad shape.I realize that because of age or other reasons many Knightsare not capable of getting involved and that'sunderstandable. The point I'm making is, in order to getthe most out of being a Knight, which I believe is thegreatest organization going, jump in and get involved.Attend the meetings; actively recruit new members; helpout with fund raisers; attend 1st Friday Mass with yourbrother Knights . . . there’s a lot of opportunities to getinvolved. Remember, it's good to be a Knight!

Insurance Q & A

Do I need life insurance?Yes, the chances are you do need life insurance, whether it’s for paying funeralexpenses, replacing income, providing money for your child’s education, protecting your home or many other reasons. Unfortunately, too many peopledon’t know the value of a life insurance policy and go without any or adequatecoverage. Check out our life insurance calculator to see where you stand.

Is the Knights of Columbus financially strong?Yes. The Order is one of the strongest organizations from which you canpurchase insurance, as assessments by independent evaluators consistently show.

Our margin of safety is among the best in the industry. The Knights of Columbus annually receives the highest ratingsgiven by the A. M. Best Company and Standard & Poor’s.

What exactly are dividends?Dividends are the divisible surplus the Order has left over after paying expenses and setting aside the necessary amountsto assure that future benefits are fully funded. Dividends develop from favorable experience, such as people living longerthan expected or from interest earnings higher than those guaranteed in their policy. Remember, the payment of dividendscannot be guaranteed.

If I have questions about my insurance policy, or have an interest in learning more about the products the Order offers, whom should I ask?Your professional Knights of Columbus agent can answer any questions you may have. Even if you are not currently apolicyholder, a field agent, who is also a brother Knight is available to meet with you at your convenience the needs of youand your family.
