2019 Senior High State Competition

Heritage Spirit Awards

The reader, judge, and computer operator will meet briefly after each round to choose one team best representing a posi-

tive spirit according to the criteria found below. The reader, judge, and computer operator will reach a consensus and

write reasons why the particular team was chosen during that round. These reasons must be specific.

It is the judge’s responsibility to make sure that the selection process occurs after each round and the form is completed

in each competition room. Immediately following the fifth oral round, the judge should deliver the voting form to the

Directors Room (Room 221) Knowledge Bowl headquarters.

Criteria: The definition of team spir it:

“The qualities and conduct becoming to a champion competitor.”

Attitude toward all members of the team.

Attitude toward other teams.

Attitude toward readers/judges/computer operators.

Attitude toward the team advisors.

Attitude in winning/losing; accepting victory or defeat graciously.

In general, overall conduct.

Knowledge Bowl Champions

In 1979, Lakes Country Service Cooperative purchased the rights to

“Rural Knowledge Bowl”. The first year involved nine teams from that region.

Over the years, more Minnesota Service Cooperatives across the state joined,

and the name was legally changed to Knowledge Bowl®. Once a statewide meet began,

there were still several changes--most notably a 2-tier system that still exists today.
