01 Homegrown food concept storeDEC 2014

Homegrown Foods is an ethical company, it helps the local farmers by not plunder their benefits also provide a healthier lifestyle to customer throught making sure their agriculture is clean and reach the high standard through testing. The most important is Homegrown Foods has a passion on proclaiming local farms to Hong Konger. As a role of agency, Homegrown Foods delivers the crops from local farms to locals and this point is my concept. Also, as a role of delivery, transportation is one of the elements in the concept store.

The baskets positionThe positions of the baskets and the railroad are taken reference from the map on the Home-grown Foods website which shows us where their farmers at. And the baskets, I moved them a bit higher and lower to fit the wall.

Sale item of the storeFor the crops I put in the store, I have done some research on the farmers such as I searched about the crops they grow on gov-ernment website. Their farms are all organic farms. And finally I picked three items of each farms as the sale items. There are 6 farms in the store, for example, Zen organic, Wah Kee Farm, Ming uan Farm, Fung Lok Farm, Hong’s Organic and Ah So’s farm, these farms are all local farm which Homegrown food hired as food providers.

Zen Organic/ Romanian lettuce/ Asparagus/ Cucumber

Wah Kee farm/ Apple/ Broccoli/ Sweet Potatoes

Fung Lok Farm/ Cauliflowers/ Fennel/ Okra

An So’s farm/ Cherry potatoes/ Sweet corn/ Beetroot

In the concept store of Homegrown Foods, there are divided into three parts. The top area is storage, big baskets hanging on the wall at the middle and also a structure of sit-ting, standing and crops display system at the bottom. In the store, there are lots of crops, they are placed in the baskets hanging on the wall and also the structure of the sitting and standing area. I have done these display sys-tem because I want to let the customers to feel how fresh the crops are since you can’t reach to the baskets part. The baskets area is not simple, there are some railroads hanging on the wall (next to the basket) and on the ground. Once customers order the vegeta-bles and fruits through little machines and then basket moving on the wall following the rail to the basket which place the crops which the customer orders. After the basket collects all the food the customer orders, it comes down on the ground and reach to the cashier, I want to show people the basket and the railroad as Homegrown Foods is deliver-ing fresh vegetable and fruits to their hands. About the area of another food display, there are seats and standing area whose provides for people to watch how their baskets move, wait for their vegetable and chat.

The mall, it is a place where is the best to promote healthy life style since there are fast food stores and Hong Kongers don’t really care about local food since most all of the food in the market all imported from China and other countries. At the same time, the mall is also a place to bond the collec-tion between local farmers and locals.

Site analysis

On the 4th floor of Langham Place, restaurants are mainly stayed in there such as fast food, Japanese food, Tai-wan food and European etc. All of them are branches of oversea restau-rants, this is the reason this floor is the best place to have Homegrown Food concept store. Organic store opening next to fast food restaurant can pro-duce a big contrast of healthy living style.

The ladders are in the storage area

For the product display, every crop is put into baskets which the baskets and the boxes are fusing together. I make this because I want to match the farm feelings. And the baskets positions are all following the big baskets positions on the wall.

In Hong Kong, people have lived under pressure the whole time, so vacation is the way that they can walk away from their stress. However, most of them are not in well-being. The concept of well-being comprises two main elements: feeling good and functioning well. Feelings of happiness, contentment, enjoyment, curiosity and engagement are characteristic of someone who has a positive experience of their life. And the hotel is very important to them since it is a place where they can relax and rest without any pressure, plus hotel is not only a place for them to relax also healing themselves.

There are five ways to reach wellbeing. First, connect with the people around you. Second, be active, discover a physical activity you enjoy and that suit your level of mobility and fitness. Third, take notice, be curious, and catch sight of the beautiful, remark on the unusual. Notice the changing seasons. Besides, keep learning, learning new things will make you more confident as well as being fun. Finally, give, do some-thing nice for a friend, or a stranger. Thank someone and smile. Therefore, my hotel is filled with these five factors.

For helping people to reach wellbeing. I designed this hotel according to those fives way of being wellbeing. To being with, the environment of the room is very close to nature, since there are many windows surround the room and even half of the room is outdoor area. Next, there is common area between rooms to room, the guest can swim to the pool of the next room, and this can increase the interaction with people. Also for interacting with people, there are tables and seats sur-rounding the pool so that people can sit there watch and chat with people. Furthermore, there is a reading corner in the room; it placed around the bed area. The books are put under the bed since there is a bookshelf, it can make good use of the space of the room. Finally, the guests can swim since there is a pool; it is a place for you to become active with people and being healthy.

/ Bookshelf (under the bed)/ Since, the indoor area (bed) is not very big, so that I combine the shelves with the fur-niture or wall. Therefore the room can have more space. /Also, the water fall from the gap, it produces the water sound so that people can relax.

Reflection

I love this project since I have a great passion on designing hotel. This project do gives me a great chance for me to know more about hotel and it was my first time to design hotel. And since this is a 1:200 model which means everything should be so detail. The difficulties I have been through in this project is the size of everything in the room since this was the first time I did 1:200 model and I didnt know about he height of human in 1:200 model.

Open spaced hotel so that people are close to each other.

The hotel is close to the nature like woodland so that people live here can be so relax and have a well mindset.

Glass window separated the bed-room and the bathroom from the pool.

This house is for four people to live in temporary. People from Hong Kong are always stressed and they need a space to relax which should be free and open to nature. Also, the housing situation of Hong Kong is cramped so the area for each person is wide so people can do whatever they want.

Reflection

The beginning of starting this project, I was very confused what i was doing and still didn’t figure it out for so long especially the plan and block part. I just gathered some planes randomly and blocks too without consider the reasons. However, I tried to better the blocks and planes several times so I could start the final model design. There are 4 rooms in the living quarter, and the ones on the left hand side are quite special as my own opinion since each room has two floors, there are stairs to com-bine the rooms.
