IMPORTANT INFORMATION

The requirements in today’s road trafficcall for the full attention of the road usersat any time.

The comprehensive and pretentious fea-tures of modern car radios offer a lot ofinformation about traffic and road condi-tions besides an abundance of entertain-ment.

However, the radio system with its manyfunctions should only be operated if thetraffic situation allows for this.

For example, changing cassettes or read-ing a cassette lable while driving hasalready often led to dangerous situations.

In addition, the volume of the radio systemshould always be adjusted so that you canstill safely hear outside acoustic signals.

Caution Keep complete control of yourvehicle at all times!

When storing RDS stations you shouldpress the corresponding station buttononly when the station name appears in the display. This ensures that all RDSinformation has been interpreted and stored automatically.

When calling up stored RDS stations, the corresponding station name is display-ed. If the stored frequency is too weak forgood reception, the radio searches auto-matically for an appropriate alternative fre-quency (best station function).

If non of the stored alternative frequenciesis strong enough for good reception, thedesired station cannot be received at themoment. In this case, tune to another sta-tion.

! Please make sure that the stationname is displayed when the stationis stored. If a moving text should bedisplayed, this will be storedinstead of the station name.

In many European countries, RDS is al-ready transmitted by many radio stations. The goal is to provide an overall coverage.

With this system, an inaudible digitizeddata current is transmitted in addition tothe normal FM radio signal, providing theRDS receiver with information in encodedform which controls, among other things, the following functions:

• Programme identification(PI code)

With the help of the PI code, the radiorecognizes the currently received station.

• Programme service name(PS code)

The PS code transmits the station namewhich is shown in the display.

• Alternative frequencies (AF code)

Because of the limited transmission rangeof the FM waves, the programme of oneradio provider is transmitted by severalstations on different frequencies. The AFcode informs the radio about all alternativefrequencies of the same programme. This enables the radio to tune to the fre-quency which can be received in the bestquality.

Tuning to another frequency is carried outin an inaudible way. The station name in the display remainsunchanged.

While you are driving, the RDS radio sear-ches permanently for alternative frequen-cies of the station selected and tunes tothis in an automatic and inaudible way.

• Traffic programme identification(TP code = Traffic programme)

This information tells the radio that it iscurrently receiving a traffic programmestation.

The device is provided with an automatictape type switch-over function. For opti-mum playback quality we recommend youto use “chromium dioxide” or “metal” cas-settes. To ensure a troublefree operation, you should only use cassettes of well-known manufacturers.

If distortions should occur when playingprerecorded cassettes, we recommendyou to copy the recording on a cassette ofa renowned make.

To prevent distortions due to the cassetteitself, we recommend you to use only C-90or C-60 cassettes.

You should not stick adhesive labels or additional labels on the cassette.During cassette mode, the cassettemay get warm and the label detach causing malfunctions.

Tips to cassette mode Guarantee

Never expose cassettes for a long time to very low (below -10° C) or very high(above +50° C) temperatures inside thevehicle. Please consider that the tempera-ture inside the vehicle may be considerab-ly higher than outside the car.

Avoid exposure of the cassettes to directsunlight. It is best to store the cassettes intheir boxes or in the original cassette traywith reel lock available for most vehicles.

If the high frequencies should get lost afterlong operation (about 100 hrs. accordingto tape material), the sound head may besoiled by tape abrasion. In this case, cleanthe sound head using a wet cleaning cas-sette. Use only cleaning cassettes of anenowned make and follow the usermanual of the cassette manufacturer.

For our car radio systems apply the sameguarantee conditions as for new vehicles.

! A damage in the sense of the guarantee must not be caused byimproper handling of the system orby inexpert attempts of repair. Inadditioin, no visible damages mustexist.
