AND
CONTROL
- an infectious
tropical disease caused
by the dengue virus,
transmitted thru a bite
of a mosquito by the
genus Aedes.
What is Dengue?
DISTINCT PHYSICAL FEATURE
-black and white stripes on its body and legs
Aedes aegypti mosquito
CLOSE – UP LOOK

Transmission of Dengue
Humans become
host of virus.
Incubation is 4-10
days then produce
dengue symptoms
Humans get infectedfrom bite of infectedmosquito. Mosquitosget infected when theybite infected humans.
Mosquito bites and sucks
blood containing the virus
from an infected person.
Virus is carried in its
body.
And passes the virus to
healthy people when it
bites them.
SYMPTOMS
Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever: High fever, hemorrhage, has 4 grades:
Grade 1:
Fever, non specific
Grade 2:
Grade 1 manifestation +
spontaneous bleeding
Grade 3:
Signs of circulatory failure
Grade 4:
Profound shock, death
No commercially availablevaccine.
Prevention and control are sought by reducing
the habitat, controlling the number of
mosquitoes, and limiting exposures to bites.
CHILDREN ARE AT GREATER
RISK than adults because
they are unable to recover
from the bleeding during
the SHOCK PHASE.

Discarded empty bottles
