Overview This document explains how to use a Behringer FCB1010 MIDI Foot Controller with the Korg Pa2X PRO 76-Key Arranger Keyboard. You can control the essential Style Elements on the Pa2X remotely by using the FCB1010 device. Additionally, you can connect a weighted 88-key Stage Piano like the Roland RD-700GX utilizing the MIDI Merge function of the FCB1010 device. By setting a split point on the RD-700GX you can trigger fingered chords on the Pa2X right from your RD-700GX Keyboard Controller. This allows complete hands free operation of the Pa2X.

Note: Korg uses a numbering scheme based on 0-127. However, the FCB1010 uses a numbering scheme based on 1-128. Send SysEx Data to the FCB1010 device Send this SysEx data to the FCB1010

Turn on the POWER on the FCB1010 unit while pressing the DOWN button. The FCB1010 will power up in DIRECT SELECT MODE. You can see the Green LED. The Global Configuration has 4 Modes:

CONFIG Press the DOWN button. You are now under CONFIG MODE. The green LED under CONFIG will be lit. Press the 7 button to make the FCB1010 ready to receive SysEx data. Press OK

Press and hold the DOWN button until the LED counts down to 00. Your SysEx data is now saved in the device.

Set the FCB1010 in MIDI MERGE MODE You want the MIDI OUT from the Roland RD-700GX to feed the MIDI IN of the FCB1010. You want the merged output from the FCB1010 to feed the Korg Pa2X Pro. Open the GLOBAL CONFIGURATION – CONFIG page: Make sure the LEDs on Pedal 8 and 9 are ON. Pedal 8 = Red LED ON = MIDI MERGE Enabled Pedal 9 = Red LED ON = Running Status Enabled

Korg Pa2X PRO Setup You must make the following settings on the Korg Pa2X to make it work with the Behringer FCB1010 MIDI Foot Controller.

Mode = STYLE PLAY Press the STYLE PLAY button. The Pa2X is now in STYLE PLAY MODE.

Open the Drum Fill Tab Set the Fill Modes Fill 1 = VARIATION DECREASE Fill 2 = VARIATION INCREASE Fill 3 = VARIATION INCREASE Lock the Fill Settings

This will allow you to change the Variations by using the Fill buttons.

Open the MIDI IN CHANNEL Tab Very important!!! Set MIDI Channel 16 = CONTROL Nothing will work unless you set this Control Channel.

The Behringer FCB1010 will transmit the Program Change values on MIDI CHANNEL 16. This will control the Style Elements. Set MIDI Channel 01 = GLOBAL Note: The Expression Pedals A and B on the FCB1010 device will communicate via GLOBAL CHANNEL 01. Your Roland RD-700GX 88-key controller will also communicate with the Korg Pa2X via this GLOBAL CHANNEL.

Roland RD-700GX Setup Create a SETUP as follows: Turn on SPLIT. Hold down for the SPLIT button for 2 seconds. Set Split Point = F#3 This will reflect the Split Point Setting of G3 on the Pa2X You can layer 2 voices on the Upper Keyboard. You can layer 2 voices on the Lower Keyboard. Make sure the 2 Red Buttons and the 2 Green Buttons are turned on. You can adjust the relative volumes of the 4 voices using the sliders.

Connect the FCB1010 and the RD-700GX to the Pa2X Connect the MIDI OUT of the Roland RD-700GX to the MIDI IN of the FCB1010. Connect the MIDI OUT/THRU of the FCB1010 to the MIDI IN of the Korg Pa2X. Very Important!!! Turn on the FCB1010 device first. Then turn on the Roland RD-700GX. Turn on the Pa2X last. If you turn on the RD-700GX before turning on the FCB1010 unit, you will see a flashing LED. The 10 Presets on Bank 1 is all you really need to remotely control the Korg Pa2X. Pressing Fill 2 will move to the higher variation. Pressing Fill 1 will move to the lower variation. Pedals 6, 7, 8 and 9 will call the 4 STS settings. You can change the Chords from your RD-700GX by playing fingered chords below the F3# split point. Expression Pedal A will control the modulation on the Pa2X voices Expression Pedal B will control the expression on the Pa2X voices.
