B.Tech. First Year Orientation Programme

Amrita School of Engineering, Bengaluru held the Orientation Programme, which
marked the beginning of a new journey for young Engineering aspirants on the 31st of July,
2015. This was one of the most anticipated events by parents and students alike.
The newcomers and their parents were welcomed by Ms. Jyotsna, Assistant Professor &
Vice-Chair of Amritadhara. She also introduced the dignitaries present on the occasion. The
ceremony started with the lighting of the lamp by Poojya Swami Amritageetanandapuri.
Director Br. Dhanraj delivered the welcome speech. He stressed on the importance of being
focused while maintaining equanimity of the mind. Poojya Swami Amritageetanandapuri
continued by illustrating AMMA‟s magnanimity with riveting anecdotes and enlightened the
audience with his wisdom and vast knowledge of the intricacies of the human mind. The
Associate Dean Dr. Rakesh S.G. gave a bird‟s eye view of the activities of the School and
administered the oath to the new entrants. The Chief Guest, Mr. Prabhu Eshwarla, Director &
Head at HP Enterprises, Service Division, HP India Pvt. Ltd, Bengaluru encouraged the students
to make best use of the opportunity at hand and come up with innovative business ideas. After
the Vote of Thanks, which was proposed by Ms. Deepa K. Narayanan from the Department of
English, the Student-President of Amritadhara, Ms. Rachana Murthy, extended a hand of
welcome on behalf of all the seniors. Poojya Swami Amritageetanandapuri distributed the
Prasadam to the gathering, which was followed by a sumptuous meal arranged by the School for
all the parents and their wards.

IEEE is the world‟s largest association of technical professionals with more than
400,000 members in chapters around the world. Its objective is the educational & technical
advancement of electrical & electronic engineering, telecommunication, computer
engineering and allied disciplines.
In the Asia Pacific global region of IEEE, the Karnataka chapter has been recognized to
have the maximum number of members. One of the most significant component of the IEEE-
Karnataka chapter is the IEEE-WIE (Women In Engineering).
The various activities performed by the IEEE-WIE in the recent years are as follows:-
Encourage women to take up various career in the field of engineering.
Provide education and schooling to the underdeveloped strata of the society.
Provide opportunities to engineers of various fields to meet with the real world demands
by using their practical knowledge.
Guide and submit many projects and publications contributed by women authors.
The event „Women in Engineering‟ was held on 23rd of July, 2015 in Amrita School of
Engineering, Bengaluru. The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Shikha Tripathi, Chair,
Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering, ASE-B. Dr. Lakshmi V.V.S., the
Chairperson of WIE-Karnataka Chapter proceeded on to give an exploratory speech. She
enlightened the gathering on how the WIE mainly functions and what are its major goals.
Dr. Preetha Sharan, Professor in the Department of Electronics & Communication
Engineering, Oxford College of Engineering and also the supporter & mentor of all IEEE events
gave a brief technical explanation on the investigation of photonic-crystal based biosensor chip
and a non-invasive technique for sugar test.
The vote of thanks was proposed by Ms. Mamatha I., Assistant Professor in the
Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering. The next upcoming event organized by the
IEEE-WIE will be the IEEE WIECON-ECE2015.

Forum Activities
Inter Community 2015
The Internet Society (ISOC) which is an international non-profit organization, is trusted
as the world‟s independent source of leadership for Internet Policy and Technology Standards.
The ISOC took up the initiative to conduct a global seminar named „Inter Community 2015‟.
With attendees from more than 141 countries and 15 regional nodes, it was an inter-continental
meeting of the Internet Society, on the Internet, for the Internet. The Bangalore Chapter which is
one of the regional nodes of the Internet Society administered this international conference in
the Bangalore Campus of Amrita School of Engineering on the 8th of July, 2015.
The highlight of the day was the panel discussion on the trending topic-“Net Neutrality”.
The eminent panelists who presided over the seminar voiced their opinions on the same. The
panel moderator for the day opened the deliberation by discussing the impending pros & cons of
implementing Net Neutrality in Indian society and the global markets as well.
Among the panelists were Ms. Vidhushi, Dr. Mahesh, Mr. Rajesh and Mr. Parmendar
Singh. The panelists were from varied sectors of IT, Private and Government Organizations. The
discussion included the introduction of the concept of Net Neutrality and Zero Rating, views on
the regulations of Net Neutrality and its ISP perspective in the present Indian market. The panel
discussion was followed by a two hour long international video conference which exposed the
audience to global views on Net Neutrality.
The alumni trio of ASE-B Mr. Suhas S.G., Mr. Arjun Abhinav and Mr. Subramanian
Ramviji orchestrated the events for the day under the guidance of the Dr. Sudarshan T.S.B.,
Chair, Dept. of CSE and coordination of the Departmental Forum FACE. The event was an eye
opener on the current scenario of Net Neutrality.

150th Anniversary Celebrations of ITU
The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) celebrated its 150th Anniversary
which also coincided with the signing of the first International Telegraph Convention 150 years
ago. As the United Nations' specialized agency for information and communication technologies
(ICT), this is a momentous year for all chapters of this organization.
To mark this occasion, the Bangalore Chapter of the ITU-Asia Pacific Telecommunity
Foundation of India (IAFI) has organized an event on the theme of „ICT for
Innovation‟ on Thursday, 9th July, 2015 at the premises of the International Institute of
Information Technology, Bangalore (IIIT-B). The event was co-sponsored by Amrita School of
Engineering, Bengaluru Campus.
Dr. Sudarshan T.S.B. and Dr. Shikha Tripathi have been inducted as core members of
ITU-APT, Bangalore Chapter.
The event was attended by many senior professionals from industry and senior faculty
from academia. Prof. S. Sadagopan, Director, IIIT-B was the Guest of honor. Speakers included
Mr. P.K. Garg: Ex-Chair, Radio Regulation Board ITU, Dr. P.V. Anand Mohan: Advisor
CDAC, Dr. P.R. Kumar: Professor & College of Engg. Chair in Computer Engg. Texas A&M
University, USA.
The program had an auspicious beginning with lighting of lamp by the guests followed
by invocation song rendered by Ms. Priyadharshini, Asst.Professor from Department of CSE,
Amrita School of Engineering. Welcome address was given by Prof. Satish Manocha, Chairman
& Convener-IAFI, Banglore Chapter, he also spoke about the basic purpose and mission of ITU
and also put forth the message of Malcolm Johnson from Geneva.
Prof. S. Sadagopan in his address expressed that he was proud to be a part of the
celebrations and also spoke about the inventions of HP Pen drives and apple Computers. He
encouraged the youth to plunge into innovations as he stated that innovation is not expensive
and thereby making many expensive utilities available in more reasonable rates.

P.K. Garg, gave the audience an insight about History & Role of ITU which is
headquartered at Geneva. He also spoke about various organs of ITU (International
Telecommunication Union) and how the Board is managed by Elected Officials.
P.R. Kumar briefed about the oncoming challenges in Cyber Physical Systems, the push
of technology comprising of Amplifiers Usage, Analog Control to Digital Control and pull of
applications like Resource Aware System, Automatic System for avoiding traffic and ensuring
safety. He also spoke about the historical view of Communication. A clipping of Zero Collision
Traffic using Cyber Physical System was also presented to audience.
P.V. Anand Mohan spoke about ITU committed to connecting world and how ICT
(Information Communication Technology) promotes development, importance of ICT
in today's era for E-government, E-Retail, E-education and so on. He was also for empowering
the farmers with the innovation.
Ganesh Jayadevan briefed about the innovation of Terra, a product used for money
transfer through various countries.
Followed by talks from various senior professionals was Vote of Thanks. Vote of
Thanks was proposed by Dr. V. Sridhar, Professor at IIIT-B.
The event ended with a high tea and networking which helped in close communication
with all the speakers and the learned.

Mr. Louis Rapet from CPE Lyon Engineering School, Image processing and IT
department, France, who had joined Amrita Robotic Research Center (ARRC) as
an “International Student Intern” under the Global Internship Program of
Amrita University during March 2015 has successfully completed his
internship in July 2015. His intern project was on “Emotion Recognition from
4D videos”. He worked under the guidance of Dr. Shikha Tripathi (Chairman, Dept. of
ECE) and Ms. Suja P. (Dept. of CSE).

Dr. Shikha Tripathi was part of the organizing committee to conduct the celebration of 150th
Year of the formation of ITU, which was coordinated by the Bengaluru Chapter of
International APT Foundation of India (IAFI). The event was conducted at IIIT, Bengaluru
on 9th July, 2015.
Dr. N. S. Murty attended the Third International Conference on Emerging Research in
“Computing, Information, Communication and Applications” ERCICA-2015 as the „Session
Chair‟ held on 31st July & 1st August 2015 at NMIT, Bengaluru.
Dr. Navin Kumar addressed the faculty members and students about the “IEEE Awareness
and Membership Drive” on 31stJuly, 2015 at Amrita School of Engineering, Bengaluru.

University of Technology, Sweden and has got admit for Ph.D. at University of Bergen,
Norway. The purpose of the seminar was to give insight into the recent advancements in the
field. The seminar was organized by Dr. Shikha Tripathi, Ms. Latha, Ms. Neeta Mishra and
Ms. Nidhi Gangrade for VII Semester students of the Department of ECE. Around 50
students attended the seminar.

Dr. Kishore Naik Mude joined the department as Assistant Professor (Senior Grade) on 21st
July, 2015. He received his B.Tech. degree in Electrical Engineering from Sri
Venkateswara University, Tirupati, India in 2008 and his M.Tech. degree in Electrical
Engineering from the Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology, Allahabad, India in
2010. From 2010 to 2011, he was a Lecturer at Amity University, Noida, India. He obtainted
his doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Padova, Italy in March
2015. His current research interests include wireless power transfer for electrical vehicles
and power electronics. He has been the recipient of:
CARIPARO fellowship from Cash savings foundation of region Veneto, for
Doctoral Program, in University of Padova, Italy (2012-2014).
Guest Researcher Fellowship from Dept. of Electrical Engineering, University of
Padova, Italy to pursue three months research work in the area of Wireless power
Transfer under Professor Giuseppe Buja (Life fellow IEEE) at University of Padova,
Italy in the year 2011.

Bannari Amman Institute of Technology, Anna University. He possesses an Industrial
Experience of 3 years as a senior design engineer at WEG Industries Pvt. Ltd., Hosur. He has
worked in various fields such as Quality Control Circle Member, developer of spread sheet for
determining exact load on the bearings in the enquiry stage and preparation of technical spread
sheet to speed up the existing process.
He has filed an Indian Patent for “A New Simple and Compact Gear Box for adding the
Power of the two sources”. He has 1international journal publication, 1
national journal publication and 1 international conference publication
to his credit. His achievements include “The Best Outgoing student” for
overall performance (2006-2010) with a gold medal at BIT. His areas of
Interest are Engineering Thermodynamics, Heat Transfer and

Ms. Divya Sharma S.G., joined the department as „Faculty Associate‟ on 15th July,
2015. She has completed B.E. from BMS College of Engineering, Bengaluru in Industrial
Engineering & Management and M.Tech. in Engineering Management from Dayanand Sagar
College of Engineering, Bengaluru.
She possesses an industrial experience of 3 years. Her areas of interest include Supply
Chain Management, Project Management, Manufacturing Process/Technology etc.
Mr. Basavaraj Noolvi joined the department as „Assistant Professor‟ on 18th July, 2015.
He has completed B.E. in Mechanical Engineering from BDT College of Engineering,
Davanagere, M.Tech. degree in Machine Design from R.V. College of Engineering, Bengaluru
and he is pursuing his Ph.D. in the area of Smart Materials at R.V. College of Engineering
affiliated to VTU.
He possesses a total teaching experience of close to 10 years in various institutions such
as Basava Academy of Technology, Don Bosco Institute of Technology, East West Institute of
Technology and Acharya Institute of Technology, Bengaluru in various capacities.
He holds two international conference publications and a national conference publication
to his credit. His areas of interest are Smart Materials, Micro and Smart Systems.

Placements Update
The second phase of Mu Sigma placements was held in Coimbatore campus on 3rd
July, 2015. In total 18 students from Bengaluru campus have been hired by Mu
Sigma, where 8 students are from ECE, 6 students from CSE, 2 students from EIE, 1
student from EEE and 1 student from ME.
Three students were placed in Zoho Corporation which was conducted on 15th and
16th July.
Charge Bee Solutions conducted Placement Drive on 24th and 25th July, 2015 and
one student - Mr. Siva Reddy - from the department of CSE got placed.
Internships Update
Four students were placed and nine students were selected for Internship by CISCO.
Wipro conducted an Internship Drive for the M.Tech. students and 2 students from
Bengaluru Campus got selected.
It is a matter of prestige that Ms. R. Snigdha of 2nd year CSE, secured 2nd rank in the
National Creativity Aptitude Test-2015 (NCAT). She received a cash prize of Rs.15,000
and attended a 1 week course on Creativity and Innovation at IIT- Delhi from 13th -18th
July, 2015.
Freshers World conducted a Campus Assessment Test on 29th July, 2015 which was
facilitated by CIR, Bengaluru.
T.I.M.E. (Triumphant Institute of Management Education) initiated a one-day GATE
Technical Workshop for the 2017 POB on 30th July, 2015.
A two day FDP that explored dynamic meditations on personal energy system &
emotional health was conducted by Mr. A.D. Balakrishnan for the CIR team on 13th and
14th July, 2015.
