PUPILS GET TO COMPETE IN OLYMPIC MEDAL TABLE
Schools that have signed up to KSSP are enjoying the Olympic feel to competition as they a& represent countries in an Olympic Medal Table. SSP staff have been promoting London 2012, the Olympic values and the medal table through school assemblies. Schools are also teaching their students about their repre-sentative countries which is developing cross curricular links. When the schools compete they win participation points and also gain points for bronze, silver & gold medal positions. There are Olympic Medal tables at year 1&2, 3&4 and 5&6. We are also running individual medal tables in sportsha& athletics and gymnastics so pupils who do not compete at finals can sti& be recognised for their talents. Young Ambassadors *om the partner secondary schools wi& be presenting individual medals in the future.

KINGSBURY’S COMPETITION TUESDAY KICK STARTED WITH MULTI SKILL AND FOOTBALL
The Abbey Primary school were crowned Erdington Champions on Tuesday 18 October after an unbeaten run in the Erdington Yr 5&6 Football Association tournament. Six teams entered the competition, but surprisingly there was only representation from St Barnabus, Court Farm, The Abbey and Erdington Hall, who to their credit entered 3 teams, allowing lots of children to participate. The lack of schools did not affect the en-joyment on the day, pupils said they loved the new 3G pitch and can’t wait to get more opportunities to play on it! The Abbey won gold medal position with 15 points, Court Farm got the silver with 11 points and bronze medal went to St Barnabus with 10 points which had to be decided by goal difference with Erdington Hall A. Four Sports Leaders from Kingsbury officiated at the event and were excellent, especially considering it was their first festival. The leaders will be back to referee the girls tournament on Tuesday 8 November.
KSSP kick started its Olympic Medal Table and competition calendar with the yr 3 & 4 multi skill competi-tions. This year the cluster events took place over 3 venues, Kingsbury, Stockland Green and for the first time Sundridge Primary. The finalists were Marsh Hill, Abbey, St Barnabus, Birches Green Junior and Sundridge. Sundridge won the first gold medal of the year, with Birches Green gaining silver and St Barnabus Bronze. Can you work out which countries they are representing??
LOCAL COMPETITION INCREASES PARTICIPATION On Wednesday 28th September the Year 3 & 4 multi-skill heats were held for the Great Barr cluster. It was the first time in many years that competition had been hosted at a local level, with Sundridge offering their hall for the use of the competition. The local level of the competition meant that more pupils than usual were able to participate with Sundridge entering two teams of 10 players and Kingsland doing the same. Kingsland made the short walk over from their school to attend the competition. Calshot also took part with 10 pupils being driven thanks to Cardinal Wiseman CTC allowing their bus to be used for transport.

ADDING VALUE & QUALITY TO SCHOOL SPORTIt is not just about ONE DAY!!
It is not just about one day of teacher release in Kingsbury SSP, it is about providing better value and increased quality! The secondary school partners certainly came up trumps in supporting school sport, especially Primary provision. Kingsbury, Cardinal Wiseman, St Edmund Campion, Stockland Green and Great Barr have all committed the new one day funding to continue the work of a school sports co-ordinator. The one day role will focus on supporting level 1 & level 2 competition of the school games and promoting London 2012. They are also offering sports facilities & sports leaders in addition to this time. All schools are keen to still work collaboratively within a partnership and to support Kingsbury SSP in its changes moving forward. The Primary school ‘Buy in’ is definately adding value to what we can deliver, as each cluster is getting a member of staff for an extra half day a week. This time will enable schools to develop bespoke action plans relevant to their schools to aid progress & quality of PE & school Sport. Schools are also gaining access to additional funded programmes such as Bikeability and Birmingham playleaders and will soon be involved in exciting new projects such as the Matalan Sporting Promise ( Tops Sport & Primary Active Leaders Training) and Primary ChangeforLife clubs.
