Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe
In the Spirit of Vocations: Our Parish Family
Dear Parishioners and Friends of St. Patrick:
This weekend, we celebrate as people of faith The Feast of Christ the King. It is also the final weekend of another Church Year. In the spirit of St. Ignatius of Loyola, can I invite you to join me this weekend in doing a little “consciousness Examen?” As you and I look back on the past year from a spiritual perspective, have we allowed the Gospel message to change our hearts in any way or are we in a “spiritual rut” – just going through the motions in our relationship with the Lord? Is Jesus Christ truly the King of our hearts as this feast asks us to consider prayerfully? As we continue to celebrate this Thanksgiving weekend, are we truly grateful for the many unique gifts and talents the Lord has given to us? Do we even know what our strengths are, as well as recognize those of our family and friends who are part of our lives every day? Do we bring out the best in others or just criticize and take them for granted? Do we develop and share our unique gifts in order to serve others? What is it that may be keeping us from sharing our gifts? Isn’t it the Lord who says to us often in the parables of the Gospels that those who are “greatest in His eyes” are those who actually use their talents, gifts, and strengths and do not bury them? Isn’t it the Lord, the Savior of our Hearts, who will one day ask us “face-to-face” how we did in loving Him, in seeing Him in the least of our brothers and sisters? As the powerful saying goes in the world of recovery, “it is progress we seek, not perfection!” Next week is a new start to another Church Year – with the beginning of the First Weekend of Advent. Is there one goal we each can set for ourselves, to be transformed in the spirit of Renew My Church and discover how to use our talents to make this Christmas season filled with hope, joy, and the peace of Jesus, our Lord and Savior?
Please help me welcome as our Advent Mission Presenter next weekend, December 2nd and 3rd, our own parishioner, Ms. Terri O’Neill-Borders. Ms. Terri is “no stranger among us.” She is one who knows the hearts of the people of Lemont and loves us dearly. She strives to be an authentic witness to the Gospel of Jesus Christ with the many hats of responsibility she wears among us. Ms. Terri will be at the Lemont Parishes next weekend encouraging us to take time to reflect on “Growing in
Discipleship” and following the Lord intentionally in our everyday lives. On Monday and Tuesday evenings, December 4th and 5th, beginning at 7:30pm right here at St. Patrick, she will elaborate on this theme in the context of prayer, personal reflection time, song, and faith sharing from her life with the Lord. I hope you can join us, Terri, and all our brothers and sisters of faith from our neighboring parishes. Please remember that Tim Callahan will be sharing his Thanksgiving reflections at the 5 P.M. Tri-Parish Sunday evening liturgy this weekend. As a Candidate in training for the Permanent Diaconate, I hope you will
offer your support, prayers, and encouragement for his journey ahead. Lastly, I want to welcome among us Mr. Gary Polkow, our new Choir Instrumentalist. He is a very gifted, experienced, and talented musician who quickly endeared himself to our Director of Music, Ms. Christina Grinius, and our talented adult choir. I know in a very short time you will come to know and appreciate the giftedness of this man of faith. Please stop by the piano area after Mass the next time you see the Choir, and introduce yourselves, and welcome Gary in the “St. Patrick Way” as you so lovingly do!
With the blessings of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe,
