Este fin de semana, tenemos una de las parábolas más famosas de Jesús, la parábola

del hijo pródigo o padre misericordioso. Me gustaría darles una breve reflexión

sobre el comentario que hemos usado durante este año, el Comentario Católico sobre

las Escrituras.

“La escena de reconciliación entre el padre y el hijo menor se hace eco de varias

narraciones del Antiguo Testamento. Por ejemplo, cuando el hijo menor de Isaac,

Jacob, regresa de un país lejano (Paddan-aram), se encuentra con su hermano mayor

separado, Esaú. "Esaú corrió a su encuentro, lo abrazó, lo tumbó sobre su cuello y lo

besó" (Gen 33: 4 NRSV), detalles similares al regreso del hijo menor, a donde el

padre "corrió, cayó sobre su cuello y lo besó" (15:20 KJV). La reunión entre Jacob /

Israel y su hijo José se describe de manera similar:" José. . . Subió a encontrar a su

padre Israel en Goshen. Se presentó a él, cayó sobre su cuello. . . ”(Gen 46:29

NRSV). La historia de José y sus hermanos separados también tiene paralelos en la

parábola. Al igual que el hijo menor, José va a un país lejano (Egipto) pero termina

recibiendo una "túnica" y "anillo" (Lucas 15:22; Gen 41:42 LXX). Se produce una

"hambruna" (Lucas 15:14; Gen 41:54; 42: 5), que conduce a la reconciliación de los

hermanos y la reunión del padre y el hijo. Además, un pasaje de Jeremías tiene

algunas similitudes con la parábola. Efraín, el hijo de José (Gen 48:20), se convierte

en el nombre del reino del norte (Isaías 7: 9) que "se separó de Judá" (Isaías 7:17).

Como resultado del exilio asirio, Efraín, como el hijo menor, se fue a un país lejano,

desde el cual ora: “Tráeme, déjame volver, porque tú eres el SEÑOR, Dios mío. /

Porque después que me di la vuelta, me arrepentí ”(Jer 31: 18–19). Dios responde:

“¿No es Efraín mi hijo predilecto, el niño en quien me deleito? . . . / Mi corazón se

conmueve por él, / ¡Debo mostrarle compasión! ”(Jer 31:20). Estos pasajes del

Antiguo Testamento arrojan más luz sobre el mensaje de reconciliación y la

misericordia de Dios en la parábola ".

Puedes ver que hay una historia en el Antiguo Testamento de reconciliación entre

padres e hijos. Hoy seguimos buscando esa reconciliación entre padres e hijos y

entre nuestro Padre celestial y cada uno de nosotros. Una gran manera de hacerlo es

a través de la confesión. Por favor, durante esta temporada de Cuaresma, tómate un

tiempo para recibir el Sacramento.

Siempre tenemos confesiones media hora antes de las Misas, pero también hay un

tiempo de reconciliación el sábado de 4 a 5 pm mientras tenemos la adoración.

También comenzaré a escuchar confesiones después de las Estaciones de la Cruz los

viernes a las 8:00 pm. A lo largo de la Semana Santa, habrá muchas oportunidades

para la confesión. Del 15 al 17 de abril, de lunes a miércoles, habrá confesiones de

11 am a 1:00 pm y de 7 pm a 9 pm. El Jueves Santo, 18 de abril, la Misa de la

Última Cena será a las 7:00 pm con adoración y confesiones hasta las 11:00 pm.

Viernes Santo, 19 de abril, el Via Crucis será a las 3:00 pm con confesiones de 4 pm

a 6 pm. El servicio de Viernes Santo será a las 7:00 pm también.

Grupo Focal Latino - Caminando Juntos les invita a

conversar sobre las necesidades y los servicios que

desea la comunidad latina en Sioux Falls. El motivo es

fomentar relaciones más fuertes en la comunidad y

Pescado Frito - Los Caballeros de Colón de Montrose / Humboldt patrocinarán una

venta de Pescado Frito en St. Patrick's, Montrose el viernes 5 de abril por la noche,

de 5:30 - 7:30 pm. Ofrenda libre. Todas las ganancias se entregarán a la parroquia de

Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe en Sioux Falls. En el otoño la parroquia tuvo un grave

incendio en la iglesia. Los Caballeros desean colaborar con el regalo de las

This weekend, we have one of the most famous parables of Jesus, the parable of the

prodigal son or merciful father. I would like to give you a short reflection from the

commentary we have used throughout this year, the Catholic Commentary on Scrip-

ture.

Old Testament Fathers and Sons

“The scene of reconciliation between the father and the younger son echoes several

Old Testament narratives. For example, when Isaac’s younger son, Jacob, returns

from a distant country (Paddan-aram), he meets his estranged older brother, Esau.

“Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck and kissed

him” (Gen 33:4 NRSV), details similar to the younger son’s return, where the father

“ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him” (15:20 KJV). The reunion between

Jacob/Israel and his son Joseph is described similarly: “Joseph . . . went up to meet

his father Israel in Goshen. He presented himself to him, fell on his neck . . .” (Gen

46:29 NRSV). The story of Joseph and his estranged brothers also has parallels in

the parable. Like the younger son, Joseph goes to a distant country (Egypt) but ends

up receiving a “robe” and “ring” (Luke 15:22; Gen 41:42 LXX). A “famine” (Luke

15:14; Gen 41:54; 42:5) occurs, which leads to the reconciliation of the brothers and

the reunion of father and son. Moreover, a passage from Jeremiah has some similari-

ties to the parable. Ephraim, the son of Joseph (Gen 48:20), becomes the name of

the northern kingdom (Isa 7:9) that “seceded from Judah” (Isa 7:17). As a result of

the Assyrian exile, Ephraim like the younger son went off to a distant country, from

which he prays: “Bring me back, let me come back, / for you are the LORD, my

God. / For after I turned away, I repented” (Jer 31:18–19). God responds: “Is Ephra-

im not my favored son, / the child in whom I delight? . . . / My heart stirs for him, / I

must show him compassion!” (Jer 31:20). These Old Testament passages shed fur-

ther light on the parable’s message of reconciliation and God’s mercy.”

You can see that there is a history in the Old Testament of reconciliation between

fathers and sons. Today, we continue to seek such reconciliation between parents

and children and between our heavenly Father and each of us. A great way to do this

is through confession. Please, during this Lenten Season, take time to receive the

sacrament.

We always have confession a half hour before the Masses but there is also a time of

reconciliation on Saturday from 4-5 pm while we have adoration. I will also begin

hearing confessions after the Stations of the Cross on Fridays at 8:00 pm. Through-

out Holy Week, there will be many opportunities for confession. On April 15-17,

Monday through Wednesday, there will be confessions from 11 am – 1:00 pm and 7

pm – 9 pm. Holy Thursday, April 18, the Mass of the Last Supper will be at 7:00 pm

with adoration and confessions afterwards until 11:00 pm. Good Friday, April 19th,

the Via Crucis will be at 3:00 pm with confessions from 4 pm – 6 pm. The Good

Friday service will be at 7:00 pm as well.

Fish Fry - Montrose/Humboldt Knights of Columbus will

sponsor a Fish Fry at St. Patrick’s, Montrose on Friday

evening, April 5th, serving from 5:30-7:30 pm. Free Will

Offering. All Proceeds will be given to Our Lady of

Guadalupe Parish in Sioux Falls. The parish this fall

had a serious fire in the church. The Knights wish to reach

out to them with the gift of the proceeds from the Fish Fry & Bingo.

Fish Fry: The Christ the King Knights of Columbus Council will host a Fish Fry

on Friday, April 5th from 5:30 - 7 pm in the Community Center at Christ the King

Church, 1501 W. 26th St., Sioux Falls. Stations of the Cross will follow at 7 pm in

the church. All are welcome! A free-will offering will be taken.

Adult Education at Holy Spirit Church in Sioux Falls is on Tuesday, April 2nd at

7:00 p.m. in the Fireside Room. The presenter is Deacon Bill Radio from the Cathe-

dral of St. Joseph Sioux Falls. His topic is, “Praying with Sacred Art.” Please join

us – all are welcome. There will be an opportunity for Q & A after the presenta-
