The Scripture LessonsMatthew 1: 18-25 (NIV)Now the birth of Jesus the Messiah took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been

engaged to Joseph, but before they lived together, she was found to be with child from the

Holy Spirit. Her husband Joseph, being a righteous man and unwilling to expose her to

public disgrace, planned to dismiss her quietly. But just when he had resolved to do this,

an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph, son of David, do not

be afraid to take Mary as your wife, for the child conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.

She will bear a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their

sins.”All this took place to fulfill what had been spoken by the Lord through the prophet:

“Look, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall name him

Emmanuel,”which means, “God is with us.” When Joseph awoke from sleep, he did as the

angel of the Lord commanded him; he took her as his wife, but had no marital relations

with her until she had borne a son; and he named him Jesus.

Luke 1: 26-38 (NIV)In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a town in Galilee called Nazareth,

to a virgin engaged to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s

name was Mary. And he came to her and said, “Greetings, favored one! The Lord is with

you.”But she was much perplexed by his words and pondered what sort of greeting this

might be. The angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with

God. And now, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you will name him

Jesus. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will

give to him the throne of his ancestor David. He will reign over the house of Jacob forever,

and of his kingdom there will be no end.” Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since

I am a virgin?”The angel said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power

of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be holy; he will

be called Son of God. And now, your relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived

a son; and this is the sixth month for her who was said to be barren. For nothing will be

impossible with God.” Then Mary said, “Here am I, the servant of the Lord; let it be with me

according to your word.” Then the angel departed from her.

Living Into God’s Word

1. Have you ever been uncertain? When and why?

2. Does uncertainty hinder us or can it help us? How?

3. What does God is Love mean to you? In your life?

4. How does God show his love to us in Jesus?

5. How can we show God’s love in our lives?

6. List one or or two people who have shown you God’s

love this holy season. Tell them!

7. Why is Love the last of the four Advent candles?

8. How can we have courage in the midst of

uncertainty?

9. Who is someone you know who you would consider

brave? Why?

10. “This is love: not that we loved God, but that he

loved us”~ 1 John 4:10. God LOVES you! See you at the

manger!

It's fun, hands-onlearning, and achievement that puts kids in the middle of the action and prepares them fortoday - and for life. The leadership of Pack 423 is grateful for the opportunity to be a part of LaPlata United Methodist Church, bringing families from the community together to experiencea place to belong. The cost of Scouting is a true investment in a child's education and future. Please consider supporting the efforts of the Pack with a donation to fund the packprogramming. You can donate electronically on laplataumc.org, click Online Giving, and choosethe line item Cub Scouts Pack 423.

You may placeyour donated items in the Food Donation Box in the front entrance. Pet food donations arealways appreciated. You can also make monetary donations, just write "Food Pantry" in thememo line of your check, or give online.

FAITH SHARINGMAKE A NEW FRIEND TODAY - As you enter Church today to worship, look around and see ifyou can find someone you don't know. During Passing of the Peace, make a point to introduceyourself to them and invite them to join you in an activity of the Church. If you can't get to themduring the Passing of the Peace, hang around for a bit after worship and strike up aconversation with them. In time you'll discover if they are long lost members, or here for thefirst time. Either way, you get to make a new friend. Thank you for being one of the friendliestand most caring congregations around.

PLEASE INVITE YOUR FRIENDS - It is the simplest and most effective way to share Christ withothers: just invite your friends to church with you. Most people who grew up as Christians andwho aren't in a church say they just haven't found a church they like, and because no one hasinvited them. Most people if you ask, will say yes to an invitation. Just ask them to come tochurch for a special event, or special Sunday, or to hear a sermon you think will help them.

HAS GOD BLESSED YOU? - When God answers our prayers, or provides healing, or helps us finda job or get a promotion; when God has touched our lives – we have a responsibility to tellothers what God has done. This is a great way to start a conversation about our faith with thosewho know us. Tell them how you feel about being touched by God, or how God has answeredyour prayers.
