Volunteers and Employees Every calendar year, all clergy, staff members, faculty and vol-

unteers supervising, working or interacting with minors must

complete the Guidelines for Adults Interacting with Minors at

Parish/School Activities or Events. Without completing this

document, adults may not supervise, work or interact with mi-

nors. You may obtain a copy of the Guidelines for Adults by

visiting the Parish Office or by going to the Parish Website and

clicking on Safeguard the Children link. Further, adults are

permitted to interact alone with minor/minors only after com-

plying with Archdiocesan policies regarding fingerprinting and

safe environment training. They may work with minors only as

part of a team if they have not met those requirements. Dates,

Times and Locations of training can be located on the Parish

Website under the Safeguard the Children link. Fingerprinting

occurs once while the safe environment training must be com-

pleted every four years.

messaging and sharing on social media with a large audience.

The internet is a great place to meet people, but these meetings

come with potential dangers that can put kids and teens at risk.

You don’t know who you’re really talking to online. Pay atten-

tion to the sites your kids on computers and mobile devices.

Monitor the sites that they visit and ask questions about who

they talk to and what information they provide to their online

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION

Merry Christmas! Share that cheerful greeting with

some folks today. They may wonder if you have had any Elvis

sightings lately, attended Star Trek conventions, or were Cleo-

patra in a previous lifetime. Despite the skeptics, today is sol-

idly within the Christmas season. In fact, in some strands of the

Christian tradition it represents the clearest manifestation of the

mystery of the Incarnation. On Christmas Day, for example,

the Gospel reading is the Prologue of John’s Gospel, which

reveals the glory of Christ shining through our humanity pre-

cisely in his baptism. At any rate, this is an ancient feast, cele-

brated first in Egypt sixteen centuries ago. More than most

other ancient people, the Egyptians understood the life-giving

properties of water. On this day, they drew water from the

Nile, so central in the history of their people, and reserved it in

honor. Many other places copied the custom, so that St. John

Chrysostom wrote of people in Antioch gathering at midnight

to collect flowing water into vessels they brought from home

since “today there is a blessing on the water.” At home for din-

ner tonight, decorate the table with beautiful bowls of water

and white candles, toast one another with goblets of sparkling

water, and light a Christmas candle in the window one last

time.

Toy Drive The Society of St. Vincent DePaul, La Purisima Conference, along

with La Purisima School, would like to thank everyone for their gener-

ous, toys, shoes, clothing and monetary donations. Our first

HOPE Shop was a great success. We had a wonderful turn out. We

were able to assist 33 families and 105 children. We would also like to

thank everyone who volunteered their time. We are truly blessed, to

have such a wonderful parish community.

TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE

La costumbre del bautismo infantil debe ser mucho más

que un acto social o una tradición cultural, donde el ropón y los

regalos son más importantes que la doctrina cristiana, y los pa-

drinos se escogen no por su buen ejemplo sino por su cuenta

bancaria. Según los Hechos de los Apóstoles, familias enteras

se bautizaban cuando el padre de familia decidía hacerse cris-

tiano. Esta práctica de bautizar, no solo al nuevo creyente sino

también a su mujer y a sus hijos, poco a poco, quedó solo en

bautizar los niños del original creyente. El mundo en aquel

tiempo estaba basado sobre la familia así como muchas culturas

latinas de hoy. El bautizo infantil nació en la Iglesia primitiva y

al pasar de los siglos llegó a transformarse en un rito religioso

muy importante en la catequesis del nuevo cristiano. El niño

viste de ropita blanca que recuerda la presencia de Cristo en su

alma, se le regala una vela que lo invita a brillar con la luz de

Cristo y se le da una madrina o un padrino que le enseñará a

vivir en Cristo.

gran éxito, Fue maravilloso. Hemos podido ayudar a 33 fami-

lias y a 105 niños. También nos gustaría dar las gracias a to-

dos los que donaron su tiempo. Estamos verdaderamente

bendecidos, por tener una comunidad parroquial tan maravi-

Voluntarios y Empleados Cada año, todo el clero, empleados, profesores y voluntarios que su-

pervisan, que trabajan o que interactúan con los menores de edad de-

ben completar la Guía para adultos que se Interrelacionan con Menores

en Actividades o Eventos de la Parroquia/Escuela. Sin completar este

documento, los adultos no pueden supervisar, trabajar o interactuar con

menores. Usted puede obtener una copia de la Guía para adultos visi-

tando la oficina parroquial o visitando el sitio web de la Parroquia y

haciendo clic en el enlace de Safeguard the Children. Además, los

adultos se les permite interactuar a solas con menores / menores de

edad sólo después de cumplir con las pólizas de la Arquidiócesis de

las huellas digitales y el entrenamiento de un ambiente seguro. Pueden
