Sunsmart Tip
Children in Australia tend to develop moles more quickly than children in Europe.
Have you enrolled for Kindergarten and Pre-Primary 2020?
Enrolments are now open for Kindergarten and Pre-Primary in 2020. Please call into the school office as soon as possible to complete enrolment forms. Many families missed out on a place for Kindy this year so if you know of someone requiring a place for 2020, please let them know. Current Kindy families will need to fill out a new enrolment form for Pre-Primary 2020.
Waterwise Tip
Don’t flush nappies, facial tissues, cotton buds or food scraps down the toilet as these can cause blockage in the waste water system.
SCHOOL BOARD
The next meeting of the school board will be held on Wednesday 18 September commencing at 2:40 pm in the conference room.
SAFETY HOUSE DAY This program is about keeping our children safe on their way to school and home. There are a number of Safety Houses in our area so on Thursday 19 September they will have yellow balloons attached to their letterboxes. If children are challenged during their walk to or from school, these houses
are safe to go and ask for help. Also on this Day there is a Safety House Show and pikelets with yellow icing distributed to the children at recess. If you are interested in offering your house as a Safety House please ask for the form from the office.
VERGE PARKING - DODD ST
The Town of Cambridge will shortly implement signage on the verge along Dodd Street to enforce ‘strictly no parking’ on the verge. Rangers will monitor this area and infringe offenders accordingly.

Children and healthy weight Our modern society makes it very easy for children to gain too much weight too quickly. More than a quarter of Western Australian chil-dren are overweight by the time they start school. It is so common that it is difficult to tell what is ‘normal’ anymore as overweight chil-dren may not look noticeably large. The good news is that simple lifestyle changes for children and families help everyone. Think about changes that could work for your family, such as:
more active play (try stopping at a park on the way home from school)
walking to school two or three times each week
plan active outings on the weekend
make food portions a little smaller
cut out some food treats
provide fewer soft drinks and fruit juices. It is important to avoid discussing weight with children. Weight loss or dieting is not recommended for children, unless under medical supervision. Newly adopted healthy habits will help overweight children to ‘grow into their weight’ over time.
Is your child a healthy weight? Did you know that more than a quarter of Western Australian school children are overweight? Many children at risk of being overweight do not look obviously large. As children move through puberty and into adulthood, being overweight often becomes more obvious and more difficult to manage. It is easier for children to move towards a healthy weight before puberty and adulthood. Help your child to introduce small, achievable, healthy habits every day. For some ideas, go to Raising Children website (http://raisingchildren.net.au/articles/childhood_obesity.html). For fun ideas on how to support children and families to be more active outdoors go to Nature Play WA.It is important to avoid discussing weight with children. Weight loss and dieting is not recommended for children, unless under medical supervision. Healthy habits help children to ‘grow into their weight’.
ASSEMBLY
Thank you very much to Mrs Pam Taylor, Mr Carl Sexton and Year 2 students for hosting the assembly on Friday 23 August. Congratulations to the children listed above who received awards at this assembly: The next assembly (item) will be held on Friday 30 August 2019 commencing at 8:40 am in the undercover area and presented by Mrs Ruth Jooste’s and Mrs Catherine Humphryson’s Pre Primary Red class. We hope to see you at the assembly!
