LAMC CD 1 Week 4
Genes & Human Reproduction
Gene- is a section of the DNA.
• For each pair of chromosomes, the genes for a trait (i.e. - eye color or nose shape) are in the same locations, and called alleles.
• Phenotype- is the outward expression of the genotype-environment interactions; includes behaviors; the characteristic of a trait that is observable in a person;
• Dominant gene- A powerful allele whose characteristics are expressed in the phenotype regardless of the allele with which it is paired.
• Recessive gene- A weak allele whose characteristics are expressed in the phenotype only when it is paired w/ another recessive gene.
• Epigenesis- development results from the bidirectional interactions between genotype & environment (environmental influences on development)
• Mitosis- involves autosomes…
• Meiosis- the process of cell division that results in the production of gametes.
• Gametes…
• Gonads…
Conception & Fertility/Infertility
• Ovulation- release of an egg (ovum) from the ovary…

Behavior Genetic Theory
• Environmental & genetic factors that account for individual in personality & behavior.
• Shared vs. non-shared environments
• Heritability- value ranges from 0 to 1.00; the higher the heritability, the more the characteristic is believed to be influenced by genes
Identical twins / Gemelos Idénticos
(Monozygotic)
• La concepción se produce con…
• Pueden desarrollar su propia…
Fraternal TwinsGemelos Fraternales
(Dizygotic)
• La concepción se produce con…
• Siempre desarrollar individuo…
Gene environment interactions
• The environment influences how genes are expressed in the phenotype
• Epigenesis: development results from the bidirectional interactions between the environment & genotype (DNA)
