Trip 1: Medical Mission trips are organized and led by LCMS staff in St. Louis. Health Education and Screening are included in our Synod’s Mercy Missions. A formerly planned trip did not happen in May and it has been delayed until July 14th - 21st, which opens the door for Redeemer, albeit with short notice. Other mission team members will come from across the US. Redeemer would like to send 1-2 members with medical health education or related experience. We have limited financial support available; partial support raising and/or self-funding will be needed. The cost is about $1000 for all expenses (food, lodging, ground transportation etc.) plus the airfare. Translators are available but knowing Spanish is a bonus. The setting, the resources and mission staff are wonderful and represent a rare opportunity for Redeemer to experience the great things that God is doing in the D.R. Redeemer is already invested there through 30 sponsorships of children in Palm Ariba and an increased awareness of the whole DR mission will benefit Redeemer. The LCMS Mission story in the DR is compelling. If you are interested or would like to find out more of the specifics, please contact Jeff Shoumaker at 309-691-2333, ext 14 or 309-657-1722, or Karen Moser at 309-691-3721 ASAP. The process begins with an online application at LCMS in St. Louis this week. BIBLE STUDYWHAT DO WE BELIEVE? As we head towards the “Grow Out” segment we are reminded that a major part of being able to grow out is understanding and articulating what we believe as Lutheran-Christians. Can you tell others what you believe, based on God’s Word, in a clear and concise fashion from God’s Word? Let me help you do that and equally important, help you understand your own faith. To be honest, that’s why you should be in Adult Bible Study on Sundays at 9:40 a.m. with your Pastor every week, but especially so at this moment in our congregation’s mission.

CREATIVITY & CHRSITIANITY “...they shall come and proclaim His righteousness to a people yet unborn...” - Psalm 22:31 From writing to music, from art to animation, there are many great examples of creativity applied to our Christian faith. What’s your gift? In our new class we will explore some creative thinking methods to help kick start your imaginations, take a look at examples in art and literature, and provide an opportunity to try some yourself! Come join Tony & Heather Grichnik in the basement for “Creativity & Christianity,” starting June 8th. All new confirmands and up are welcome!

MISSIONSPRAY FOR TANZANIA!On Monday, June 9th, Pastor Meyer and three men from our congregation will go to visit and to work at our Mission Endeavor in Tanzania. The Tanzania Endeavor is primarily support for a Lutheran School and hopefully a future Medical Care Station as well. In our “12 for 12” vision, which is $12,000 for 12 Mission Endeavors, Tanzania is the third mission support of the twelve to be chosen by our Board of Missions.

Furthermore, as our Shepherd and Leader, Pastor Meyer needs to meet with Bishop Makala and Pastor Nzelu, of what is known as the South East Lake Victoria Diocese, in order to determine if a long-term relationship with them is appropriate. The LCMS is working to partner with this church body, and our congregation has been given the green light to do so from our Synod, but there are some concerns at Synod about doing more than we are currently doing. Lord willing we will have a long and strong relationship with them. Pray for Pastor Meyer, Steve Holtman, Aaron Meyer and Corey Storer as they travel and as they are in country for a short six days.

FELLOWSHIPUPDATE - 2014 CID DAY AT THE BALLPARK CID Day at the Ballpark at Busch Stadium has turned into a double header on Saturday, August 30th. Game times are now 1:15 p.m. and/or 7:15 p.m. Forms are available for pick up at the Information Desk or you can download a form from the weekly e-Newsletter. Any questions, please call 217-644-2452 or email [email protected].

BENEFIT FOR PASTOR KEN MANGOLD The congregations of Trinity Lutheran Church, LaRose, and St. John’s Lutheran Church, Washburn, are holding a benefit for their Pastor, Rev. Ken Mangold on June 7th at the Washburn American Legion, from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tickets are $10.00 and will include all you can eat fish, waffle fries, coleslaw, dessert, and a drink. There will also be a live auction beginning at 5:00 p.m., as well as a raffle, purchase of pull tabs, and a bake sale. Pastor Ken Mangold was diagnosed with a liver disease known as PSC (primary sclerosing cholangitis), which led to the need for a liver transplant in 2006. The return of this disease is now causing the need for a second liver transplant, and Ken is currently on the waiting list. The return of the disease has also caused significant financial need, as Ken has been forced to resign as pastor of Trinity and St. John’s. Please consider helping the Mangold family in their time of need. The cause is wonderful and the need is great. We hope to see you at the benefit. It will be a lot of fun along with being very helpful to this great family.

CONCORDIA ELEMENTARY SCHOOLRETIREMENT RECEPTIONSThe Concordia Lutheran School Board of Directors will be hosting a retirement reception honoring Mrs. Jan Heien, Mrs. Katie Tagge, and Mr. Bruce Tagge at Concordia Lutheran School on Sunday, June 8th at 2:00 p.m.

YOUTH MINISTRYJUNIOR HIGH YOUTH MINISTRY ACTIVITIESWe want our Junior High Youth to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, a strong Biblical foundation, and to be able to share Christ’s love with others. To make this happen, we have Confirmation, Bible studies, activities, servant events, and much more. Our Junior High Youth are 2014-2015 6th-8thgraders.

This Sunday, June 8th, we are having a Summer Kick-Off Party. It is after the late service, from 11:30 - 2:00. The Claybrooks are hosting. Let’s start the summer off with a bash! There will be lunch, fun & games, and more. Please bring $5.00 and a friend. If you need directions to their house or have any questions, please contact Ellen Price at [email protected].

On Friday, June 13th from 2:00-5:00 p.m., Junior High Youth are welcome to join Ellen for an open gym. Come for group activities, games, crafts, snacks, and devotions. Please bring $5.00 and wear gym shoes. Don’t forget to invite your friends!

YOUTH GROUPHigh School Youth Group will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. every Wednesday. Current 8th Graders are welcome now! We meet in the Youth Room (just off of the gym). Every week there will be awesome games and activities. But most importantly, there will be time for worship. We gather to grow in Christ, and have fun along the way. Bring your friends!

GOLF OUTINGThe Redeemer Golf Outing was started 10 years ago by Edna Slane. This outing supports our Youth Ministries and is in memory of Phyllis Miller and Edna. Please join us for a great outing at Laurel Greens Golf Course on Saturday, June 21st at 7:00 am. All golfers should be there at 6:30 a.m. Cost is $75.00 and includes 18 holes, cart, and a great steak lunch! For more information on how to be a golfer or a sponsor, contact Jessica Zinkhon at 309-696-2517 or [email protected].

CHILDREN’S MINISTRYCARD SHOWERWhitney Savage will soon be leaving us. Let us celebrate her time with us on June 22 with a card shower during the Sunday School hour. She has served our children these past two years teaching and guiding them in the Word of the Lord. Everyone, including children, are encouraged to join us in the Life Center for pastries and drinks. Come and help us say goodbye and wish her well.

VBS DONATIONSVBS just would not be the same without the yummy and fun snacks the children are served. Please check out the snack sign-up sheet outside of the office. Also each year the children fill bags full of goodies to send to the Children’s Hospital here in Peoria. Your help is needed to make these bags a success. The bags are filled with toothpaste, a toothbrush, chapstick, coloring book, and stickers. If you do not want to go out and purchase items but would still like to contribute, a free will offering is always appreciated and accepted. Please drop items off in the bin outside of the office by June 15th.

VBS OUTREACHJesus said in Matthew 28:19, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.”

This is the Great Commission and what a great way to try to fulfill this commandment by reaching out to our local neighborhoods and inviting them to VBS. Families are encouraged to join us to help spread God’s word to our neighbors. We will walk our through adjacent neighborhood putting up door hangers telling about VBS and our church. We will meet at the church on June 8th at 3:00 p.m.
