2015 PROJECT EASTER BUNNY

CAPITAL DISTRICT – Floy-dwarriors.com “Helping Families Cope with Cancer, One Household at a Time” is very pleased to announce its 6th annual run of Project Easter Bunny. Floydwarriors.com founder Lisa Morahan began this effort after ex-periencing Easter Sunday in 2009 too ill to make one basket up for her son while in the middle of chemo-therapy treatment. In 2010 enough toys and candy were collected to make up 100 baskets, 135 in 2011, 190 in 2012, 225 in 2013 and 290 in 2014. Our goal is to collect enough new small toys and candy for 350 baskets this year and add yet another oncology center to our list of glad recipients. Several area cancer organizations and hospitals caring for can-cer patients will receive this year’s bounty so children of those in treatment will have a nice big basket to open on Easter morning. Locations to receive baskets hope to include The CR Wood Cen-ter at Glens Falls Hospital, Samaritan Hospital in Troy, The Mollie Wilmot Radiation Oncology Center at Saratoga Hospital, The Community Hospice of Saratoga, The Hope Club in Latham, New York Oncology Hematol-ogy of Albany and Rexford, CRAAB, To Life! and families helped by floydwarriors.com. HELP FOR SCHOOL-AGE CHILDREN WHO STUTTER

CAPITAL DISTRICT - Stuttering is a frustrating and embarrass-ing problem for millions of people, but it can be especially tough on elementary school-age children. Help is available for parents, teachers, and speech-language pathologists at most public libraries in the form of a DVD designed to help school-age children who stutter. Some libraries have an older video version. The DVD features students from first through sixth grade, some of whom talk about their experiences with stuttering. They talk openly about the teasing they face from classmates and how their stuttering sometimes makes them feel about themselves. The 38-minute DVD, entitled Therapy in Action: The School-age Child Who Stutters, produced by the 67-year-old nonprofit Stuttering Foundation is available free of charge to public libraries nationwide. Other libraries that will shelve it can contact the Foundation at 1-800-992-9392, e-mail [email protected], or visit www.stutter-inghelp.org or www.tartarmudez.org.

FUNDS NEEDED FOR ELECTRICAL UPGRADENORTH RIVER – The North River United Methodist Church is seeking donations for the “Let There Be Light” campaign to update the electrical system in the 168-year-old church building. The North River United Methodist Church was founded in 1847 in the hamlet of North River and is the second oldest church located in the Town of Johnsburg. Ac-cording to Amy Sabattis member of the church and current trustee “We have had some success in raising funds through car washes and bake sales and we have had a few gener-ous donations but we are still lacking the funding to com-plete the project. The fund-raising committee is looking for grants from foundations, too, but most private foundations say “no churches.” So, we have hit social media by using the site GoFundMe. The site will display our campaign but only when we hit the $500.00 mark. When we hit that mark our campaign will be posted for the whole world to see and the potential for donations is much greater.” If you would like to contribute to this fundraiser go to http://www.gofundme.com/lit3z4 or call Amy Sabattis at 518-251-2519.
