About Lawrence Tech Formula SAE: The Formula SAE competition is for SAE student members to conceive, design, fabricate and compete small formula-style racing vehicles. This year 15 students and 11 alumni are building the vehicle. Many of those alumni are from last year’s team because the season, including the Formula Michigan competition at Michigan International Speedway and the actual building of the vehicle, were canceled due to COVID-19. This year’s team has decided to finish building last year’s car. The end result, besides a great experience for young engineers and automotive professionals, is a car twice as good from twice the minds and twice the time. To accomplish this goal, team members must use the engineering and project management knowledge learned in class combined with work experience they have gained throughout their collegiate careers. Especially now, these students know how to navigate unforeseen circumstances and have gained valuable experience to take into the field.
