1.0 PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

The LBH-SDI-EAD-T Series is a high performance, low cost, miniature,Link BridgeTM HDBaseT SDI Transmission System. It carries one (1)unidirectional SDI video, one (1) unidirectional embedded stereo audioand two (2) bi-directional RS-232 and one (1) bi-directional IR throughone CAT-5e/6. The TX unit can power the opposite side over the CAT-5e/6 cable, via PoH (Power Over HDBT). This unique transmission systemlets your digital flat panel display extend at 4K2K Ultra HD and WUXGA(1920x1200 @ 60Hz) or 720p/1080i/1080p HDTV video resolution.

No user adjustment is required for the LBH-SDI-EAD-T system due tothe use of advanced digital HDBT transmission system technology withzero compression and zero bit reduction. This allows for a quick andeasy setup, offering trouble-free operation for many years to come. Inaddition, the LBH-SDI-EAD-T transmitter is compatible with our LBH-EADSeries receiver such as LBH-DVI-EAD-R or LBH-HDMI-EAD-R. Thismakes both HDBT transmission and HDMI/DVI/VGA/YPbPr/SV/CV/SDIconversion in one single system setup. The LBH-SDI-EAD-T comeswith either a standalone miniature enclosure or a Decora wall-platepackaging. The units are easily monitored by power and link LEDindicators.

Figures 1-1, 1-2, 1-3 and 1-4 illustrate the front and rear panels ofthe LBH-SDI-EAD-T unit.

2.0 SETUP

LBH-SDI-EAD-T is a transmitter that can be paired with any DVI/HDMIcentric LBH receiver (such as LBH-HDMI-R). One LBH-SDI-EAD-Ttransmitter unit is located at the near-end and connected through oneCAT-5e/6, to the LBH-HDMI-EAD-R receiver located at the far-end of thelink. Figure 2-1 depicts a typical installation for the LBH-SDI-EAD-T.

2.1 Mounting

Before installing the units into your housing, make sure there isenough space to pull and connect both the electrical andCAT-5e/6 transmission cables without stressing them beyondthe manufacturer’s limitations (also known as the minimum bendradius).

2.2 Cabling and Connectors

In order to setup the LBH-SDI-EAD-T properly, make sure toobserve the following instructions when installing the propercables. The LBH-SDI-EAD-T requires two parts to the cablingsetup, the electrical and the CAT-5e/6 transmission.



2.2.1 Electrical Cable Connection

The three available cable connections on the electrical side arefor SDI video, audio and data connections. Follow the proceedinginstructions in order to properly install your electricalconnections.

2.2.1.1 SDI Video Interface

The SDI video connection is the SDI plug connectors forvideo input and output ports. Use the following instructionsto properly connect your component video as illustrated inFigure 2-2.

1. Connect the LBH-SDI-EAD-T (Transmitter) unit’s SDIvideo input port to the user’s VGA video source with theappropriate HDMI cables.

2. For the receive unit, connect the LBH-HDMI-EAD-R(Receiver) HDMI video output port to the user’s HDMIvideo receivers with the appropriate HDMI cablesrespectively, as illustrated in Step 1.

2.2.1.2 Audio Interface

The audio interface supports single stereo channel high fidelitytransmissions. One stereo channel is transmitted in onedirection. Line-level audio signals are connected to theLBH-SDI-EAD-T units. The following steps illustrate theinstallation procedures for audio devices.

To send audio signals, label and connect one stereo audio-jackcable to the “AUDIO OUTPUT” connector and the line level audioreceiver, connect the other cable to the front panel stereo jackconnector labeled “AUDIO IN” (see Figure 2-3a and 2-3b) to theline level source.

2.2.1.3 Serial Data Interface

Each LBH-SDI-EAD-T unit can be used for RS-232 and IRinterface.

RS-232/IR DataataThe LBH-SDI-EAD-T transmits two channels of data signals.Follow the procedures for installing data terminal devices.

1. Label and connect one serial data cable to the user’s RS-232or IR device.

2. Connect the other end of this cable to the front panel dataterminal block connector on the LBH-SDI-EAD-T (seeFigure 2-4).

2.2.1.4 Status LED’s

Additional status LED’s are provided for the user to indicate thepresence of HDCP video, audio presence and data presence.These are to assist the user in identifying right from the frontpanel whether a given signal is present for transmission and aidin the troubleshooting process if a given signal is missing.

2.2.2 CAT-5e/6 Cable Connection

Follow the ensuing instructions on installing and connecting theCAT-5e/6 links:

1. Ensure the power is off before proceeding with theCAT-5e/6 cable installation.

2. It is recommended to use shielded CAT-5e/6 cabling.

3. Connect the CAT-5e/6 from one unit to the other connectingthe near end LBH-SDI-EAD-T unit’s HDBT port to the farend of the LBH-HDMI-EAD-R unit’s CAT-5e/6 RX port asillustrated in Figure 2-6.

HDCP LED: Will be solid LED when videoinput has a HDCP. It will blink when videoinput does not have HDCP.

Data in and Data out LED:It will be on when the unitdetects data signal.

SPDIF & L/R detect LED.It will be on when the unit detectthe audio input signal.

2.3 DC Power Connection

Congratulations! You are now ready to power up the LBH-SDI-EAD-Tand set up your network connection. In order to make sure that youhave a proper installation, please observe the following:

1. Your AC jack has power.

2. The 24VDC power supply is working.

3. Your electrical system has proper grounding (this ensuresthat your power supply does not suffer from voltagevariations).

4. Power Surge Protection. This is optional, but highlyrecommended. A UPS system provides voltage regularityas well as prevents spikes from occurring, thus protectingyour LBH-SDI-EAD-T from sensitive voltage conditions.

The LBH-SDI-EAD derives power from an external 24VDC power supply.This power supply is a wall mounted AC/DC adapter, 100-240 VAC,50-60 Hz, at 1.0A. This power supply comes standard for theLBH-SDI-EAD-T unless otherwise specified.

If you have any problems or concerns, regarding the installation, makesure that you have taken the proper steps to ensure a proper powerconnection. Otherwise, feel free to contact us for any questions youmay have.



2.4 In-Wall Power/CAT-5e/6 Wiring Instruction

The in-wall power/CAT-5e/6 installation for the LBH-SDI-EAD-T-WP (wallplate version) must conform to national and local electrical codes, e.g.,UL junction boxes shall be used and DC power source shall not exceedproduct rated range (+24VDC @ 1.0A). Follow the following steps forpower/CAT-5e/6 installation:

1. As shown in Figure 2-7, feed both CAT-5e/6 and power cablesthrough the opening of the wall box, and secure the cables withcable clamps to provide strain relief.

2. Terminated CAT-5e/6 with RJ45 connector to be directly pluggedinto the RJ45 connector port of the LBH-SDI-EAD-T-WP units(see Figure 2-6).

3. Before connecting power wire to the LBH-SDI-EAD-T-WP unit,make sure power supply is off. Prepare the Positive (+24V)and Negative (GND or +24V return), and chassis ground(CHASSIS to earth ground) tip of the power wire as shown inFigure 2-8 to be directly plugged into the captive screw +24VDCconnector of the LBH-SDI-EAD-T-WP units (see Figure 2-7).Make sure the polarity of the connection is correct. Insulateany exposed wire shields to prevent short circuits.

Note 1: During installation, the installer may need to connect the powersupply output to an appropriate Listed NEC type cable before itis routed behind a wall. Simply routing the power supply outputcable behind a wall will most likely not comply with applicableinstallation requirements. Unit should only be powered by apower source that is Listed (NEC) Class 2 or a Listed ITE PowerSupply marked/rated as LPS or Limited Power Source.

Note 2: The installation shall be in accordance with the applicableprovisions of the National Electrical Code ANSI/NFPA 70,Article 725 and the Canadian Electrical Code, Part 1,Section 16.

Note 3: The power supply shall not be permanently fixed to the buildingstructure or similar structures.

Note 4: The power supply shall not be located within environmental airhandling spaces or within the wall cavity.

Note 5: The power supply is to be located within the same vicinity asthe A/V processing equipment in an ordinary location, PollutionDegree 2, secured to the equipment rack within the dedicatedcloset, podium or desk.

3.0 OPERATION

After the installation procedure is completed, the units are ready foroperation. To operate the LBH-SDI-EAD-T units, simply apply power asindicated in the previous sections. The following describes the LEDactivity.

4.0 MAINTENANCE AND TROUBLESHOOTING

4.1 Maintenance

There is no operator maintenance other then keeping the unitsclean. However, observe the following light indicators to makesure that the unit is working properly:

4.2 Troubleshooting

If the LBH-SDI-EAD-T units do not operate properly afterinstallation, check for possible cable breaks, loose connections,and incorrect cable connections. If problems persist that maybe fiber related, contact BCI at 1-800-214-0222 for furtherassistance.

For electrical problems, perform the following troubleshootingprocedures:

1. If the POWER indicator is OFF, check for the following:

a. The line cord is plugged into the unit and your outlethas power.

2. If the POWER indicator is ON, but the Link indicator isOFF, check for the following:

a. Make sure the appropriate CAT-5e/6 are being used.

b. Cable and RJ45 connectors are not broken.

c. For each unit, the transmit (TX) cable is connected tothe other unit’s receiver (RX).

3. If the POWER indicator and HDBaseT Link indicatorare ON, but the audio/video channels are notoperating, then:

a. Check to see that the attached user equipment is turnedon.



b. Both ends of the link are connected to the correspondingequipment and to the same corresponding channel port.

c. Cable connections at both the video/audio channelsare securely fastened to each connector. Turn thepower off, then back on to reset the link.

6.0 SERVICE PROCEDURE

6.1 Replacement Policy

Standard products found defective on arrival (DOA) will bereplaced, based on availability, within 24 to 48 hours anywherein the U.S. Please call Customer Service at 800-214-0222 forinformation.

6.2 Return/Repair Service

The LBH-SDI-EAD-T System contains no user serviceablecomponents. If you have a problem with your unit, please contactthe Customer Service Department. To facilitate our return/repairprocessing please contact Broadata Communications, Inc. toobtain a Return Material Authorization (RMA). Please includethe following information:

7.0 LIMITED WARRANTY

Broadata Communications, Inc. (BCI) warrants, for a period of one yearfrom date of shipment, each product sold shall be free from defects inmaterial and workmanship. BCI will correct, either by repair, or at BCI’selection, by replacement, any said products that in our sole discretionprove to be defective and are returned to the manufacturing locationwithin 30 days after such defect is ascertained. All warranties are limitedto defects arising under normal use and do not include malfunctions orfailure resulting from misuse, abuse, neglect, alterations, electrical powerproblems, usage not in accordance with product instructions, improperinstallation, or damage determined by BCI to have been caused by theBuyer or repair made by a third party.
