PROGRAM

At United Way of Saskatoon and Area we believe that change starts with one person. It starts with leadership.

United Way’s Leaders are a committed group of individuals with a common goal. They aspire to the vision of a strong and caring community, and better lives for everyone who lives in Saskatoon and area. They do so by contributing gifts of $1,200 or more to the Annual Campaign.

What is a leader?

“United Way has earned a high level of trust, respect and credibility in our community for the work it does in building community and changing lives. I am proud to be a part of this organization.”

Thank you to all United Way Leadership Giving Program donors. You truly embody the Together we are Possibility philosophy of United Way of Saskatoon and Area.

As part of the Leadership Giving Program you are part of something much bigger than you could ever imagine. You have recognized the gaps in our community and have made a conscious decision to take action. Your gift means United Way can continue on the path to sustainable, positive change and better lives for everyone.

Thank you!

United Way of Saskatoon and Area invests in local programs, services and initiatives that support our goal of a strong and caring community for everyone. We focus our investments in three areas:

MOVING PEOPLE FROM POVERTY TO POSSIBILITY

Meeting basic human needs such as shelter, food and employment

Moving people out of poverty into sustainable, healthy situations

BUILDING A STRONG COMMUNITY

Improving access to social and health-related support services

Supporting resident and community engagement

Supporting community integration and settlement

HELPING KIDS BE ALL THAT THEY CAN BE

Improving access to early childhood learning and development programs

Helping kids do well in school and complete high school

Assisting them in making the healthy transition into adulthood and post-secondary education

In 2014, we invested strategically in local agencies, programs and services to meet vital and emerging community needs. We also invested and participated in capacity-building initiatives, research, collaborative projects, education and training, and facilitated strategic partnerships to continue the growth of 211 Saskatchewan and the Plan to End Homelessness.

Thank you to all donors and volunteers for making these investments possible. Through your generosity, you have created change that improves lives.

“Tommy Douglas said: ‘Courage, my friends; ‘tis not too late to build a better world’. I believe in those words as a proud union member and to me, United Way of Saskatoon and Area uses his words on a daily basis in everything they do. They are a true leader in bringing diverse backgrounds together to create positive changes for everyone.”

Corporate Leaders show their support to the community through United Way, resulting in shared values with their employees. The following organizations reported five or more Leadership Giving donors in 2014.

Page 27: LEADERSHIP GIVING PROGRAM 2015 - United Way of Saskatoon ... · *2015 brings exciting changes to the Leadership Giving Program. The new Bronze entry level, previously known as ‘Leaders

Many United Way of Saskatoon and Area Leaders make personal donations or make use of the payroll deduction option through their employers, but there are other ways to be a community Leader.

DONATIONS OF LISTED SECURITIES

Take advantage of greater tax saving opportunities while creating positive change in our community.

By donating publicly traded shares to United Way, you will not pay any capital gains tax normally associated with such a disposition. You will receive a tax receipt for the full value of the shares, but are not taxed on any gain. Donors of securities therefore do not need to take any capital gain into income.

THE TOMORROW FUND

By making a gift to The Tomorrow Fund, a donor can ensure a gift will continue in perpetuity. The gift is invested wisely, professionally managed, and indexed to inflation to ensure the real value of the capital is maintained. The annual income generated in excess of the amount capitalized for inflation is used by United Way to support innovative and effective community programs.

Ways to Give

Page 28: LEADERSHIP GIVING PROGRAM 2015 - United Way of Saskatoon ... · *2015 brings exciting changes to the Leadership Giving Program. The new Bronze entry level, previously known as ‘Leaders

A Planned Gift is a personal matter – a thoughtful commitment to the future. Many donors are interested in making sure their support continues after they no longer contribute through the Annual Campaign.Planned gifts are often made from assets accumulated with care over many years.

United Way of Saskatoon and Area is able to help you achieve your charitable objectives.

You may be surprised at how simple it is to make a substantial gift with flexible giving options such as:

A bequest in your will.

A gift of life insurance.

A gift of cash, securities, or property.

A gift in the form of residual interest.

A commemorative gift.
