    LEADERSHIP GIVING

    PROGRAM

  • At United Way of Saskatoon and Area we believe that change starts with one person. It starts with leadership.

United Way’s Leaders are a committed group of individuals with a common goal. They aspire to the vision of a strong and caring community, and better lives for everyone who lives in Saskatoon and area. They do so by contributing gifts of $1200 or more to the Annual Campaign.

    What is a leader?

Lea PennockChair | United Way Board of Directors

“United Way has earned a high level of trust, respect and credibility in our community for the work it does in building community and changing lives. I am proud to be a part of this organization.”

  • Thank you to all United Way Leadership Giving Program Donors. You truly embody the Together we are Possibility philosophy of United Way of Saskatoon and Area.

As part of the Leadership Giving Program you are part of something much bigger than you could ever imagine. You have recognized the gaps in our community and have made a conscious decision to take action. Your gift means United Way can continue on the path to sustainable, positive change and better lives for everyone.

    Thank you!

    We are Possibility

United Way of Saskatoon and Area invests in local programs, services and initiatives that support our goal of a strong and caring community for everyone. We focus our investments in three areas:

MOVING PEOPLE FROM POVERTY TO POSSIBILITY

Meeting basic human needs such as shelter, food and employment

Moving people out of poverty into sustainable, healthy situations

    BUILDING A STRONG COMMUNITY

Improving access to social and health-related support services

    Supporting resident and community engagement

    Supporting community integration and settlement

HELPING KIDS BE ALL THAT THEY CAN BE

Improving access to early childhood learning and development programs

Helping kids do well in school and complete high school

Assisting them in making the healthy transition into adulthood and post-secondary education

  • In 2014, we invested strategically in local agencies, programs and services to meet vital and emerging community needs. We also invested and participated in capacity-building initiatives, research, collaborative projects, education and training, and facilitated strategic partnerships to continue the growth of 211 Saskatchewan and the Plan to End Homelessness.

Thank you to all donors and volunteers for making these investments possible. Through your generosity, you have created change that improves lives.

  • Many United Way of Saskatoon and Area Leaders make personal donations or make use of the payroll deduction option through their employers, but there are other ways to be a community Leader.

    DONATIONS OF LISTED SECURITIES

Take advantage of greater tax saving opportunities while creating positive change in our community.

By donating publicly traded shares to United Way, you will not pay any capital gains tax normally association with such a disposition. You will receive a tax receipt for the full value of the shares but are not taxed on any gain. Donors of securities therefore do not need to take any capital gain into income.

    THE TOMORROW FUND

By making a gift to The Tomorrow Fund, a donor can ensure a gift will continue in perpetuity. The gift is invested wisely, professionally managed, and indexed into inflation to ensure the real value of the capital is maintained. The annual income generated in excess of the amount capitalized for inflation is used by United Way to support innovative and effective community programs.

Corporate Leaders show their support to the community through United Way, resulting in shared values with their employees. The following organizations reported five or more Leadership Giving donors in 2014.

  • A Planned Gift is a personal matter – a thoughtful commitment to the future. Many donors are interested in making sure their support continues after they are no longer making an annual contribution. Planned gifts are often made from assets accumulated with care over many years.

United Way of Saskatoon and Area is able to help you achieve your charitable objectives.

You may be surprised at how simple it is to make a substantial gift with flexible giving options such as:

    A bequest in your will.

    A gift of life insurance.

A gift of cash, securities, or property.

A gift in the form of residual interest.

    A commemorative gift.

Mike and Heather DirhamGeneral Manager, Agrium Vanscoy Potash Operations

“Being Leaders enables us to make an impact on our community and make a huge difference for others who may need a helping hand.”

  • Donations to charity are deducted directly from your taxes in the form of a credit applied against taxes payable.

This charitable tax credit reduces the amount of federal and provincial tax you may pay in the according year.

Regardless of personal income, donations of equal size are credited equally.

The system rewards extra giving; the more you donate, the larger your tax credit.

WHILE YOUR DONATION IS HELPING OTHERS, LET THE TAX SAVINGS HELP YOU…

FIRST TIME DONOR’S SUPER CREDIT (FDSC)The government of Canada has introduced a tax incentive of an additional 25% in tax credits on donations of up to $1,000 for first time donors and donors who haven’t claimed a donation since 2007. You can learn more about this new incentive on Canada Revenue Agency’s website.
