P r omot i n g Commu n i t y E n gagemen t & Un i v er si t y S u cces s L earning for E xcellence A nd D evelopment Learning for Excellence And Development ( LEAD) is a new Fresno State initiative, supported by the President’s Cabinet through its Strategic Planning Priorities of “Developing University Community” in the Strategic Plan for Excellence III: 2006-2011. The key Indicators of Implementation Success are for the campus to have “Developed Our Human Resources”. LEAD encompasses the knowledge building and enhancement of skills sets in four tracks: Track 1: Technology Development Track 2: Customer Service Track 3: Navigating through Fresno State Track 4: Essentials for Managers, Chairs & Work Leads Track 5: Wellness@Work Most workshops are interactive and will engage participants in a variety of learning styles including presentations, case studies and discussion. A combination of external professionals and seasoned University content experts will facilitate the workshops. Guest speakers will also present on topics of interest to the campus as a part of LEAD. All Fresno State staff, administrators and faculty are eligible to attend the workshops and special events hosted by Human Resources as a part of the LEAD program. It should be noted that a very small number of workshops are limited to just managers or department chairs. Managers are encouraged to provide release time for their staff to attend workshops beneficial to their current or future positions. Additionally, staff members are responsible for following internal procedures when registering to attend either a LEAD workshop or a guest speaker’s presentation on campus. How to Locate Available Workshops & Register All of our registration activity is automated and on-line. Links to registration of all LEAD workshops may be found on the eTraining webpage located on the HR website at: www.csufresno.edu/hr/etraining. It’s easy to register through the “myfresnostate” portal. Is there a registration fee? LEAD workshops and special events are no charge to the staff member’s department. LEAD is sponsored by the Department of Human Resources www.csufresno.edu/etraining/humres/index.shtml Certificates of Completion Current Fresno State employees are eligible to earn a LEAD certificate of recognition upon completion of the requirements for a single track or integrated tracks. This process can involve assessments, examining interests and strengths, and discovering strategies to move ahead. Call 278-4357 to meet individually with Dr. Nancy Petenbrink. LEAD’s objective is to provide university staff and administrators with a comprehensive professional development program to enhance knowledge and core competencies. This initiative is led by staff in the Department of Human Resources through the Wellness@Work Program and Education & Training Program.

Learning for Excellence And Development

Attend any 3 of these modules to improve intercommunication skills in the workplace and earn a LEAD Certificate in Customer Service. These workshops are open to all staff and administrators at no charge to participants. Choose from the following instructor-led modules:

• Module 1 Time Management • Module 2 Dealing with Difficult People • Module 3 How to Give Exceptional Customer Service • Module 4 Social Media as a Business Tool • Module 5 Customer-Focused Quality

Track 5Wellness@Work

Staff Training and Recognition (STAR) DaySTAR Day is a new campus event to be held in late spring each year. It is an opportunity to engage staff and administrators in personal and professional development opportunities. The event will include a guest speaker, workshops, and a recognition ceremony for individuals who have earned certificates of completion of any of the LEAD tracks. In further celebration of staff recognition, STAR Day will include the annual service awards ceremony.

Track 3Essentials for Managers, Department Chairs & Work Leads

Attend any 3 of these modules to enhance your knowledge and skills of managing/leading and earn a LEAD Certificate in Essentials for Managers, Department Chairs & Work Leads. These workshops are limited to staff work leads, administrators and department chairs. Choose from the following instructor-led and on-line modules:

• Module 1 Performance Evaluations at Fresno State • Module 2 Performance Management: From Coaching to Discipline • Module 3 The Basics of Legal Influences in the Workplace • Module 4 Managing Employee Leaves (FMLA, Maternity/Paternity, Personal, Worker’s Comp) • Module 5 Diversity and Campus Inclusion

Track 1Technology Development

Attend any 3 of these modules to improve technological performance in the workplace and earn a LEAD Certificate in Technology Development. These workshops are open to all staff and administrators at no charge to participants. Choose from the following classroom-format modules:

• Module 1 MS Word I • Module 2 MS Word II • Module 3 MS Excel I • Module 4 MS Excel II • Module 5 MS Power Point 2007 • Module 6 Website Design -Contribute & Beyond • Module 7 Zimbra - Advanced Techniques

Track 4Navigating Through Fresno State

Attend any 3 of these modules to guide both new and seasoned staff through various processes and services within the Fresno State community and earn a LEAD Certificate in Navigating Through Fresno State. These workshops are open to all staff and administrators. Choose from the following instructor-led and on-line modules:

• Module 1 All About Leaves for Employees • Module 2 Fresno State: At Your Service On-Campus Services: Parking, Bookstore, Catering, etc. • Module 3 Recruitment from A-Z (include EEO-Designee component) • Module 4 Personal Safety Awareness • Module 5 Student Records: What’s FERPA & Confidential or Not?
