1. Objectives
1.1 Results:
• This is the first MRT (Mass Rapid Transport) in Ho Chi Minh city.
• Meet the increasing demand of commuting and contribute to the local economy.
• Improve the urban environment by reducing traffic jam and pollution of HCM city.
• Total length of MRT line 1 is 19.7 km from Ben Thanh to Suoi Tien (2.6 km underground and 17.1 km high), 14 stations including 3 underground stations and 11 elevated stations.
1.2 Time:
• Route 1 was started in March 2007.
• Finish constructing in 2019.
• Come into operation in 2020.

1.3 Financial:
• Total investment cost: 2.490.000.000 (USD)
• 83% of the total investment cost is financed by JBIC loans and 17% is from the city budget.
• The project does not apply any international market mechanism.
1.4 Social:
• Supply the best punctual transportation system, high power, good reliability in Ho Chi Minh city.
• The MRT system is more efficient than personal vehicles based on CO2 emissions on passengers ‐ km CO2 emissions are reduced.
1.5 Non-objectives:
• Supervise the “Number of passengers using MRT during the year”, “CO2 emissions coefficient on passenger-Km” to optimize operation of the system.
