Put on some sun screen and head out to the Club! After weeks of cloudy skies and rainy days, folks are coming to the Club in greater numbers than ever before. As you read this, we are in the middle of hosting the annual Men’s Member – Guest Tournament. Ninety-two players are enjoying the result of the rains in May and June as the golf course is in excellent condition. Stephen and his crew have done a terrific job of putting the course back together after all of the severe weather. After an absence of many years,
By Lin LentzMessage From The General Managerprofessional golf is returning to Lufkin! The Club will be hosting the 2015 First Bank & Trust East Texas Open July 8 – 11. This is a showcase event for the Adams Tight Lie Pro Tour series. Professionals will be in town on Monday, July 6th for a practice round and there will be a Pro-Am Tournament on Tuesday, July 7th. Former Lufkin Panthers Sam Fidone and Will Griffin will be competing against some of the finest young players in the country. Sam is a multiple winner on the Adams Tour and Will has recently graduated from the University of Texas and will be competing as an amateur. Plan to come out and watch great golf with the stars of tomorrow playing today! There is no admission fee and all are welcome to come out and gallery. If you are interested in being a volunteer for the tournament, please contact Ben Burns at 637-8800 for details. For further information or to see if there are still spots for a team in the Pro-Am, email Ben at [email protected]. Next Thursday, July 2nd the “Big Bash” Pot of Gold drawing in

It seems like the month of June just flew by and July is already upon us! We jumped right into the summer with our Junior Tennis Camps the second and third weeks of the month. It was great to see such a large turn out in the beginner/ advanced beginner camps as we are growing and feed into our existing programs. The High School Varsity Camp was another great group of campers despite tropical depression Bill’s intentions to spoil our week! Don’t forget about our Golf, Tennis and Etiquette Camp this month. The Deadline has been EXTENDED to JULY 8th. Forms are available in the Leisure or at the front desk in the main lobby. Adults mark the date Friday, July 24th down to sign up for our “Power Ball Invite a Guest”. This event is open to all players rated 3.0 and above and we want you to invite a tennis guest to come join the fun! Play will run from 7-9 pm with an entry fee of $15. $10 will go into the Power Ball pot. If your total number of games matches the Power Ball number drawn, you take home the $$$
for the evening. We will keep drawing until we have a winner!!! Please TEXT me to sign you and your guest up by TUESDAY JULY 21st. My cell number is 631-1529. Our Crown Adult and Junior Summer Open is on the East Texas Calendar for August 15th-16th. We will offer Adult singles, doubles and mixed and also Junior singles and doubles. I will be emailing forms out or you make pick one up in the Tennis Pro shop, or at the Front Desk in Main Lobby of the Club house a month prior to the event. The deadline for entering the event is the MONDAY prior to the tournament . Stay hydrated everyone, make sure you are drinking water and or drinks with electrolytes at least every 15 minutes. Be sure you continue to hydrate after you finish your match or workout.

Suzan Knox recently volunteered on the Starter’s Table for the inaugural WTGA Stroke Play Championship held at Eagle’s Bluff. She commented that the field really showcased how golf is a sport that can be played for a lifetime. The youngest player was 13 and the oldest were in their 60’s. This is a statewide competition for women’s amateur golf. The WTGA 4-ball championship will be played August 24 - 25 at Walden on Lake Conroe. This will be a best ball format and entries will open on July 8. Entries may be made thru the Texas Golf Association website wwwtxga.org. Julie Zeagler just returned from 2 weeks in Croatia. She was visiting her daughter and was able to make some time for a little sight seeing. She says the country is really beautiful, and the only downside was the jet lag on the return home. Connie Kennedy is still on cloud nine after her visit to Scotland. She was able to play all the great courses and you
know she has some great stories for us all. (Did you kiss the Blarney Stone for us while you were there?) Mary Virginia Casper received a 10-year service award at the Christian Information & Service Center Volunteer Recognition Banquet held May 21. She has been one busy lady this summer visiting grand children, playing golf whenever possible, dodging the rain, and keeping the LGA on track. A number of our members have escaped the heat and are now in the cooler climes of Colorado and New Mexico. Guess it will be a while before we see them again. The Dog Days of Summer golf tournament has been rescheduled for July 31. The rain has really caused a number of events to be cancelled and re-set for a later date. The heat is back with a vengeance , so please remember to wear sunscreen and drink lots of water to stay hydrated.

Adams Tour Coming to town: as many of you have heard we have professional golf coming back to Crown Colony. Starting July 6th with a practice round for the pros. On Tuesday the Pro Am and then ending on July 11th with the final round. Many of the pros that have played on this tour have gone on to be great players on the PGA Tour, Jimmy Walker and Patrick Reid to mention a few. We hope you will want to get involved, come play or be a volunteer. One of the most exciting events within this is our Friday Night Sip ‘n Chip. The Pros who have made the cut will hang around on Friday night and help you learn about short game technique. There will be beer and wine as a part of this event and demo Titleist wedges for you to test out.

We need your help in getting people involved in golf. If you know of anyone who you want to get involved in playing this great game you need to tell them about the programs we are going to be promoting. The first of these is our Get Golf Ready Program. This is a five lesson program for just $99. In five lessons we get students on the golf course enjoying this great game that we all love. Juniors are our thing: if you would like to get your juniors involved in a great golf program, Crown Colony has a lot of different options for you. This is what we have to offer this year. Our first program is the Junior Golf classes. This program meets every week on Wednesdays for an hour to work on everything from etiquette to full swing. The second program is our Junior Golf Camps. This
is our normal summer golf camps. This last thing is we have started a new junior team program. The junior team is designed for beginner and competitive level. Thru any of our programs we can work you on to the junior team. We also know have a booklet you can pick up in the pro shop or the front desk that has all of our Junior Golf Programs in it. You can also see all the dates and times below. Make sure you pick one up and let’s build golfers for the future.
