2021 AP Exam Schedule

In person exams will be held in A106, the Superintendent's Conference Room, (formerly the food lab). Students must report with their Chromebook, writing utensils, snacks, etc. Arrive no later than 30 minutes prior to exam times listed below!

DIGITAL EXAMS The College Board has given the directive that all AP students must be prepared for digital exams in the eventuality of any unforeseen circumstances. Therefore, all students must complete STEPS 1 and 2 below. Only students actually taking a digital exam (as shown above) are required to also complete STEPS 3 and 4. STEPS 3 and 4 are

time sensitive and will prevent a student from taking their digital exam if not done properly. Please review this document thoroughly and engage in the appropriate steps. Digital Exam Steps To be ready to complete one or more AP Exams in the Digital, at-home format, you must complete four required readiness steps (https://apstudents.collegeboard.org/digital-ap-exams/four-steps-before-test) to be able to access your at-home AP Exam(s). Review below the important information and updates about the 2021 digital, at-home, AP Exams. The College Board’s About 2021 Digital AP Exams website (https://apstudents.collegeboard.org/digital-ap-exams) provides more detailed information and resources for your reference and we recommend you review it carefully. These steps below must be completed on the device you will be using for testing as soon as possible and BEFORE exam day.

STEP 1- Download and Install:

• Lenape Valley has downloaded the Digital Testing Application to your school-issued Chromebook. For all exams, except AP Spanish, you can choose to use your Chromebook or you can use your own computer. If you use your own computer, you must make sure it is

compatible, download the application, and complete all the pre-exam preparation steps on your personal computer by yourself. Please also be aware that if you use your personal computer, Lenape Valley will be limited in how much we can help you with technical issues during and following the exam. You will need to deal directly with the College Board.

• Review the Technical Requirements For Digital AP Exams to make sure your computer is compatible. (https://apstudents.collegeboard.org/digital-ap-exams/technical-requirements)

• Download and Install the Digital Testing Application (https://apstudents.collegeboard.org/digital-ap-exams/four-steps-before-test/download-install-app or https://download.app.collegeboard.org/)

• On the approved device that you will be using for testing, you will find the digital testing application present on the sign-in page of the Chromebook. Do not sign into the Chromebook. Go to the Apps waffle. Select the testing application from the dropdown menu. It is NOT named College Board. It is named 2021 AP Digital Exam Application.

• Prior to the exam, write down your MyAP username, password, and AP ID number. From the approved device that you will be using for testing, log into the AP Digital Testing app with your College Board username and password. You may need your AP ID number later in the exam. Have these with you on test day. (Cannot remember your log in to your College Board account? Contact College Board via http://myap.collegeboard.org ASAP!) STEP 2 – Complete a Digital Practice exam:

• Complete a practice with example questions in the digital testing application. This will be helpful to get comfortable BEFORE exam day! Students will have access to two practice options:

o Digital Practice: A longer option students can use to fully explore the digital testing application.

o App Demo: A shorter option students can use to quickly confirm that the application is correctly installed, that questions display appropriately, and that they can enter answers.

• Accommodations delivered through the digital testing application will be available in digital practice if the student has been approved for the accommodation(s) at the time of practice

• When using the digital exam application for digital practice, please be aware that the 20 min break between multiple choice and open-ended questions is still built into the test and you will have to sit and wait it out for the full 20 min. Please plan accordingly.

• After you submit your answers for the digital practice exam, you can close out of the Digital Exam Application. Then, log into MyAP at myap.collegeboard.org/login to view your answer and the scoring materials. Here, you can also reset your digital practice exam and retake it, if desired.

STEP 3 – VERY IMPORTANT – Complete exam set up for EACH Exam:

• Complete exam setup in the digital testing app for each exam subject you are registered to take digitally three (3) calendar days before the exam.

• This step loads your exam onto the computer you are going to test with.

• Completing this step is required 1–3 days before each exam. Without taking this step, you will NOT be able to test.

• Exam setup opens 3 calendar days before each digital exam and students must complete setup no later than the day before the exam.

• A student who waits to complete these steps on exam day puts their ability to test at risk.

• If you are unable to complete all pre-exam steps and begin the check-in process before the official start time of the exam, you won’t be permitted to test. Arriving late to an exam is not an acceptable reason to reschedule your exam.

• You are responsible for this, but your teachers and guidance will remind you at the appropriate times. STEP 4 – Check in for your exam on exam day:

• You are required to check in to each exam to complete pre-exam checks. Check in opens 30-minutes before the exam start time.

• You can only check in on the device you used to complete exam setup. You can’t check in on multiple devices.

• If you start the check-in process on one device and attempt to continue it on another, you will be prompted to close the app and use the other device.

• If you are not able to start the check-in process before the start time of the exam, you will not be allowed to test. Arriving late to an exam is not an acceptable reason to reschedule your exam.

• After check-in, you’ll wait until the official start time of the exam. The exam will begin automatically.

• Make sure your Chromebook or computer is plugged in. Get a mouse. Have scratch paper, a pencil, and a calculator nearby. Have a snack prepared for the break. Tell everyone in your household that you will taking an exam. Ask them to not use the Wi-Fi for those few hours. Get comfy! Have your username, password and AP ID number with you.

NAVIGATING THE DIGITAL TESTING APPLICATION: Answering Multiple-Choice Questions Here is an example of a multiple-choice question in the digital testing app:

• In this example, the stimulus is on the left and the question and

answer options are on the right. Other questions might not have a stimulus. Some questions come in sets, with more than one question referring to the same stimulus.

• You would select an answer option before moving on to the next question. Some questions in AP Computer Science Principles, AP Physics 1, and AP Physics 2 will require you to select two correct answer options.

• Remember: You won’t be allowed to move back to previous questions or review questions you’ve already answered. So, if you skip ahead, you won’t be able to go back.

Break Between Sections • At the conclusion of Section I, you’ll get a 20-minute break. You’ll

see a break screen with a timer counting down the time until the start of the next section.

• Pay attention to the timer. The exam resumes automatically when the break ends. If you’re not seated and ready to test before the end of the break, you may lose time on the exam.

• You must not exit the app or close your laptop screen. • You may not communicate with your teacher or any other exam

taker. • You may not access any prohibited device or resource. • You should not remove the testing device from the testing room. • You may take an unscheduled break, such as a restroom break,

during testing, but the timer doesn’t stop. You should not use the Exit button for bathroom breaks.

• In some subjects, Section I and/or Section II are divided into two parts. In those subjects, you’ll have a one-minute transition between Parts A and B—these are not breaks. As on paper and pencil exams, the transition between parts doesn’t count against your testing time for either part, and you can’t work on your exam during that time.

Answering Free-Response Questions Here’s an example of a free-response question:

• In this example, the stimulus is on the left and the prompt and text entry box are on the right. Some questions, such as this one, are answered in parts over separate screens, while others are answered all on one screen. For questions that are answered in parts, you’ll be able to move back and forth between the parts.

• If a question has sources or documents—Document-Based Questions (DBQs) in the history exams, the Synthesis question in English Language and Composition, and Seminar Part B—you can select any of the documents to display on the left, while composing your response on the right.

• You’ll type responses directly into the app. All of your work is saved to your device automatically and frequently while the exam is running. You can’t upload any files during testing, and you can’t submit any handwritten work.

• Basic formatting tools will be available: Bold, Italic, Underline; Superscript and Subscript; Undo and Redo; Special Characters; and Cut, Copy, and Paste.

Tools and Features The digital testing app has a number of tools and features to support you as you test. You should practice with these tools and features, using the digital practice questions available beginning April 8.

• Directions: You can access the exam directions and section-

specific directions at any time with the link under the course name. • Timer: During the exam, a timer at the top of the screen will tell you

how much time remains for the section. You can hide the timer, if you choose, except in the last 5 minutes of a section. In the last 5 minutes of the section the timer turns red and can no longer be hidden.

• Annotate: To help you organize your thoughts, you can highlight any part of a stimulus or question and type a note about the highlighted text. You can view your annotation by hovering over the highlighted text or clicking it. You’ll be able to edit your notes or delete highlighting before you leave a question. Note: your annotations will not be submitted with your responses or scored.

• Reference: In the STEM courses that have reference materials like

formulas and equations, you can access them directly in the digital testing app.

• Help: On every screen in the exam, you have access to a help page where you can view frequently asked questions.

• More: Use this button to access Zoom In, Zoom Out, and Exit.

• Zoom: If you have trouble viewing text or images, you can use the

Zoom In and Zoom Out buttons to enlarge or reduce them. • Exit: You should only use this button if you have a technical problem

you can’t resolve during the exam. In that case, you exit the exam, relaunch the app, and resume testing where you left off. Do not use the Exit button for bathroom breaks. Note: The Exit button does not pause the timer—if you exit the application, the timer continues to count down.

• Expand Right and Expand Left: Use these arrows if you want a long passage or text you’re composing to take up more of the screen.

• On-Screen Warnings and Reminders: • You’ll receive an on-screen warning when there are 5 minutes

remaining in the section. The clock will remain visible and highlighted red until the time limit is elapsed.

• You’ll receive on-screen reminders that you can’t go back to questions once you’ve left them. You’ll get a reminder when you attempt to move on from your first multiple-choice question and whenever you attempt to leave a multiple-choice question you haven’t answered. You’ll get a reminder whenever you attempt to leave a free-response question (or, for free-response questions answered in multiple parts, the last part of the question).

Answer Submission When the exam is over, your answers will be submitted automatically. During the upload process, you’ll see this screen:

Don’t try to click anything, refresh the page, or exit the app. When your responses have been successfully uploaded, you’ll see this screen, which means the exam is over and the AP Program has received all of your responses:

If answer submission fails—usually because the internet connection is down—you’ll see this screen:

Your answers are saved to your testing computer, so you just need to reconnect to the internet and resume the upload, using the Try Again button. If you’re connected and Try Again isn’t working, click Return to Homepage. From the home page, close the app, reopen it, and try again. If these options don’t work within 24 hours after the end of the exam, you can call AP Services for Students at 888-225-5427. Don’t call immediately when you have a submission problem—the above steps should work in nearly all cases. What if your answer submission gives you an error message?

• Review the submission steps on the Taking Digital Exams page, which include:

o Your answers are saved to your testing computer, so you just need to reconnect to the internet and resume the upload, using the Try Again button.

o If you’re connected and Try Again isn’t working, click Return to Homepage. From the home page, close the app, reopen it, and try again

o If these options don’t work within 24 hours after the end of the exam, you can call AP Services for Students at 888-225-5427. Don’t call immediately (WAIT 24-hrs!) when you have a submission problem—the above steps should work in nearly all cases.
