Ever been sick and tired of being sick and tired? Ever woke up to snow on your day off when the previous day was 60 degrees? Ever walked past the sink and think, “I washed those same dishes yesterday!” Ever have to explain the same thing over and over, just one more time? There are times I become so tired and frustrated, that I want to take my toys and go home. It might be in the middle of the week, middle of the task, or the middle of the battle. We don’t enter the fray to lose or give up. I believe that God allows us purposefully to slip into areas that we will feel inadequate…so that we learn to rely on Him, trust Him and rest in Him. There are some things we need to remember, like who you are in Christ. When the world seems its darkest, what does Paul do? “But we ought always to thank God for you, brothers and sisters.” He gives thanks for the church. You are the church. You are Loved, “brothers and sisters loved by the Lord.” No matter how dark the world around you seems, know that the heart of God is moved by you. You are chosen, “God chose you.” You didn’t get in over your head. God picked you. My confidence need not be based on my choosing Jesus, but Jesus choosing me. You are Saved. He chose you to be saved. “The world is deceived, perishing, refusing to love the truth, delighting in wickedness, under a powerful delusion, believing the lie and ultimately condemned. God loves you and chose you to be saved from that!” (Feb 22, 2019 Colin Smith, Unlocking the Bible.) You are Sanctified (set apart for God’s purpose). We are sanctified through two processes: 1) the work of the Holy Spirit in us and 2) belief in the truth. This means we have a standard to live by. We started with the exhaustion of progress. Having come to the place where you think you have given all you could, Paul says, Yes, it looks pretty dark out there, but let me remind you of who and Who’s you are. You are loved, chosen, saved and sanctified. Now let me tell you what you are to do… “stand firm and hold fast.” The hold fast is just in case you didn’t hear the stand firm. That should be enough to get us up out of the dark hole we found ourselves. But he doesn’t stop there. Verse 16 & 17 of 2 Thessalonians 2 “Now may our Lord Jesus Christ and God our Father who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word.” That is not just a little pep talk; it is eternal encouragement! And what usually precedes this struggle is that we have lost hope. But God has not only given us encouragement but hope, good hope. God brings us back into balance for a purpose that with our hearts encouraged we will be strengthened for His work and to carry His word. Read 2 Thessalonians 2:13-17. I think you will find the strength for the road ahead. Blessing and Hope, Rev. Ric Harvel

March 2019 Prayer List When we join the United Methodist Church, we take a vow that we will be, loyal to the United Methodist Church and uphold it by Our Prayers, Our Presence, Our Gifts, Our
Service and by Our Witness. Scriptures call us to celebrate with those who celebrate and to grieve with those who
grieve. We grow in connection with one another as we know the praises and concerns of the individual churches and respond in a manner of praise and/or prayer. Please feel free to share your news that we may share especially the
prayer concerns to the faith community.

In his most powerful book yet, Pastor Francis Chan digs deep into
biblical truths, reflections on his own failures and dreams, and stories of
ordinary people God is using to change the world.
Letters to the Church reminds us of how powerful, how glorious the
Church once was … and calls us to once again be the Church
God intended us to be.

Liberia Partners Summit 2019 – April 4th & 5th, Garfield UMC, Cleveland, OH
We look forward with the hope that you will join us this spring for the 2019 Liberia Partners Summit.
Whether this is your first time participating in the Liberia Summit or you have been a part of Liberia Summits
in Michigan or North Carolina, you are most welcome in Cleveland!
Why come to the 2019 Summit?
Reconnect with our Liberian friends who will be present . . .
• Meet new people who partner in Liberia . . .
• Get updates on the ministry priorities of the Liberia Annual Conference from Liberian presenters…
• Discover new ministry opportunities in Liberia
Your participation in this gathering of global partners with Liberia will help us better coordinate and maximize
our mutual efforts in evangelization, education, health care, agriculture, leadership growth and economic opportunity in Liberia.
Liberia Annual Conference UMC
Four suggested paths were presented to the General Conference of the United Methodist Church. The
delegates that represent the UMC from around the world chose to work on 2 of the 4
proposed plans. The General Conference reaffirmed its stance on sexual ethics, marriage and ordination
standards for clergy. So, our statement of belief and organization remains the same as it has been for the
past 40 years. There was work to create a path to gracefully separate from the UMC.
We will find out more about that later.
I acknowledge that not everyone comes away from the GC2019 happy.
Some come away hurt and disappointed.
I pray that as a church, we will find healing and God’s will for the global United Methodist Church.
I recommend those interested to attend one of the Bishop’s meeting on where we go from here.
Pastor Jason and I are both open to discussions concerning the UMC actions and beliefs.
