Leopold – a Xylem brand Oxelia TM Ozone-Enhanced Biologically Active Filtration System for Sustainable Water Reuse What problem did this aim to solve? The Oxelia TM System was developed to advance the implementation of O 3 -BAF solutions as either a displacement or an enhancement to RO-based reuse treatment trains. While RO produces a high quality water, drinking water standards can be met with non-RO based solutions that are less expensive and do not generate a significant toxic brine stream that must be managed or disposed. Many utilities cannot afford RO-based solutions and/or don’t have an option to dispose of the brine stream. Furthermore, TDS levels of wastewater are often at or near drinking water standards and significant salt removal is not required. If RO is needed, O 3 -BAF as an additional barrier and pretreatment has been shown to significantly improve the performance of downstream membranes resulting in an optimized holistic solution. The Oxelia TM System has further demonstrated additional efficiencies, performance, and reliability required for critical applications like potable water reuse. O 3 -BAF technology has recently been demonstrated by Xylem and others to be one of the best available solutions for simultaneously inactivating pathogens and destroying chemicals of emerging concern in treated secondary effluent. for Sustainable Water Reuse

What problem did this aim to solve? The OxeliaTM System was developed to advance the implementation of O3-BAF solutions as either a displacement or an enhancement to RO-based reuse treatment trains. If RO is needed, O3-BAF as an additional barrier and pretreatment has been shown to significantly improve the performance of downstream membranes resulting in an optimized holistic solution. The OxeliaTM System has further demonstrated additional efficiencies, performance, and reliability required for critical applications like potable water reuse.

Process Description Leopold’s OxeliaTM System is an advanced treatment solution leveraging ozone, filtration, and analytics to provide a fully integrated, ozone-enhanced biologically active filtration system (O3-BAF) that enables safe, reliable, cost-effective, and sustainable water reuse. O3-BAF technology has recently been demonstrated by Xylem and others to be one of the best available solutions for simultaneously inactivating pathogens and destroying chemicals of emerging concern in treated secondary effluent. The OxeliaTM System utilizes on-line sensors and real-time monitoring and control to reduce energy costs and ensure performance.
