Let her Play!!! Celebrating & Examining Why Girls & Sports Matter! My Girl Power™ Project & the Pima County Tucson Women’s Commission present… My Girl Power Project™, a special project aimed at increasing k-12 girls’ engagement levels in the sports, arts, science and health areas, and supported by the Pima County Tucson Women’s Commission, will be hosting our first quarterly Community Chat, a hosted roundtable discussion with select community stakeholders, to discuss key issues that affect k-12 girls, starting here in Pima County, AZ. In light of National Women and Girls in Sports Day, Feb 5, 2014, the anniversary of Title IX, and the kicking off of the 2014 Winter Olympic Games, we will focus our first quarter discussion on why access to sports and physical activity for girls is so critically important, and why we MUST ensure access for all who would like to play. The roundtable discussion will take place in a public meeting format. Findings will be produced in a special MGP Report, which will be released in March 2014. Why are we here?

To celebrate National Women and Girls in Sports Day

To celebrate anniversary of Title IX

To help kick off the start of the Winter Olympics

To examine if there are any barriers to play in Pima County, focused in on k-

12 girls.

Fiscal Office - handles all pass through funds from state to local districts

Special Administration - Holds elections and appoints vacancies at school board levels

Can host technology, fiscal services, and support for district with less than 600

students

Informational – distributes all information from Arizona Attorney General’s Office to local

schools

Educational – Oversee the Pima Accommodation District

Founded in 1983, it is ithe oldest foundation in the state

Serves 53,000 students annually

Spends nearly $50k per year for high school level sports fees

Currently does not support middle school athletic programs

Don Tringali, Founder, Sporting Chance Center,

Board Chair & Executive Director

Don Tringali is a retired attorney and corporate executive who for much of his adult life has dedicated

himself to improving youth basketball opportunities for kids in Southern Arizona.

In 1993, he founded Sporting Chance Youth Basketball, Inc., a Tucson-based

501(c)(3) organization which quickly became the most prominent youth basketball organization in

Tucson, providing kids with a wide range of basketball opportunities, including tournaments,

leagues, competitive teams, clinics, special events, coaches clinics and other programs

In 2013, opened his dream, Sporting Chance Center, a public private project with 10 volleyball and 8

basketball courts
