The late Pope John Paul II chose this day to celebrate the Divine Mercy of Jesus Christ, inspired by the Polish mystic, St. Maria Faustina Kowalska. Practitioners recite the Divine Mercy chaplet—a sequence of

prayers starting on Good Friday and ending today.
