For educatorsMonster English 1, Unit 6This is a special unit that is best used around the time of school breaks, such as winter, spring or summer vacation. It allows children to ask questions and make suggestions about the day’s plans, and it is easy for parents to use. We recommend doing this unit right before a school break begins, so skip over it and come back to it to fit the school schedule. Also, review it before every school break so that kids (and parents) get plenty of practice using it.

Language Goals 1. Ask what the plans are for the day.

“What’ are we doing today?”2. Make a suggestion.

“Let’s play soccer.”3. Ask someone what they want to do.

“What do you want to do?”4. Make an alternative suggestion.

“I don’t like soccer. Let’s paint.”5. Learn the infinitive verb form. (to+verb)

“I like to sing.”

Classroom tipsSuccess in this chapter depends on the willingness of parents to be involved in the learning process. Try to help parents, as much as possible, to be able to interact with their children.

On the second sheet, the phrase “I don’t like _____.” is used. For most students, this should be a review of previously learned material. If your students do not know this phrase, be sure to spend ample time so that they can practice and master it.

Activity ideasParent’s page: Ask parents to use this page during the two weeks of this lesson. They can ask their children the daily question and fill in the answers. (Reuse this page during vacation times!)
