Lexington Green
April 18th, 1775
•The continental congress warned the colonists to be prepared to defend
themselves in battle.
•The Continental Congress sent a petition directly to the king of England, pleading for him to not start a war. Unfortunately the King replied that it is too late for loyalty. You have crossed
the line by killing some of my men.
•The British troops went into the colonies to get all of the Americans ammunition. Paul Revere spread the word
that “The British are coming!!” So the Americans prepared themselves for battle, when that isn’t what the British wanted. Both sides gathered on Lexington Green
for different reasons.
•When both groups had gathered, on Lexington Green, someone shot their gun with no order given. This started
the battle that did not need to be fought. However this battle signified the beginning of the American revolution.
