Une fois encore, le Forum EPFL 2015 offrira une journée entièrement dédiée aux Start-ups. Ce sont de jeunes entreprises qui, actives dans le domaine des nouvelles technologies à croissance rapide et qui disposent d’un important potentiel de développement. La plupart des fondateurs proviennent du milieu universitaire, incubateur idéal de projets innovants.Avec environ 60 entreprises présentes, les étudiants et visiteurs du Forum, découvriront un nouveau monde, rempli d’inventions et d’idées originales et pourraient trouver leur bonheur, et peut-être une suite pour leur carrière.
Une conférence Pitch contest aura lieu en fin de journée. Dans ce cadre les start-ups les plus innovantes de la journée seront sélectionnées par un jury pour se présenter aux étudiants lors de la conférence. Ce même jury attribuera un prix à la meilleure présentation.
Le Forum EPFL Start-Up Day se tiendra, cette année, le 7 octobre 2015 au Swiss Tech Convention Center.

Patients suffering from heart problems will now be able to monitor their heart more quickly and easily without having to visit a specialist healthcare facility to have an electrocardio-gram (ECG). Small and easy to carry, CardioPAD Pro is an easy-to-use smart electrocardio-graph developed by Biotechware. As well as standard electrodes, it is equipped with a tab-let to guide the patient’s doctor or medical operator through every step of the examination and to display the various charts to analyse.
The data collected is sent to Biotechware’s secure online patient portal, which manages and archives data from all CardioPAD Pro users. As a result, the results can be analysed by a remote cardiologist – even if the patient lives in an isolated area. CardioPAD Pro is the first product Biotechware has launched. The Turin-based start-up wants to develop a whole range of medical devices for paperless storage of medical data in the Cloud.

Fastree3D imaging sensors help recognize and measure distance to fast moving objects in real-time, enabling driving assistance or autonomous navigation. Fastree3D SA is a fabless semiconductor company, spin-off from EPFL Lausanne, Switzerland with a research subsid-iary Fastree3D B.V. at TU-Delft, Netherlands. We provide 3D measurements at the cost of consumer technologies (as used in gesture control, gaming) adding scientific accuracy and speed. We implement single photon detectors (SPAD) on standard CMOS. Sensors measure digitally the direct time-of-flight from illumination by near infra-red lasers such as VCSEL arrays. This provides : - resolution ( > 3 mm, 20ps time of single-photon detector – operational target >2cm), - accuracy (operations under bright or dark lighting condition, high dynamic range and sig-nal/noise ratio; using high frequency pulsed illumination), - long distance (>50m, VCSEL arrays or laser with >1W peak power and eye-safe short puls-es), - speed (>200-1000 fps, low blurring of 20m/s motion, no analog light intensity integration), - low cost (digital CMOS circuits, consumer electronics and smartphones, low power).

PB&B is a Swiss MedTech startup developing anti-aging and body shaping injections that increase fat tissue volume in situ. The technology is based on biodegradable microspheres loaded with lipids that are slowly released and stored in fat cells (locally). The advantages are: (i) Natural results provided by the patient’s cells and tissues (ii) Longer-term results than fillers (eg. PB&B: 20 months vs. Hyaluronic acid: 6-12 months) (iii) Non-surgical for body shaping (breasts or buttock enhancement) (iv) Resolves unpredictability issues of fat transfer procedures used by plastic surgeons The technology has been demonstrated pre-clinically in animals in a cross-collaborative scientific partnership with EPFL (Swiss Fed-eral Institute of Technology in Lausanne) and the plastic and reconstructive surgery de-partment of HUG (University Hospitals of Geneva). PB&B’s development is logistically and financially supported by CTI (Commission for Technology and Innovation |Swiss govern-ment).

Company purpose: The SalesWings web application aims to give sales people a competitive edge by notifying them automatically when their prospects reach buying readiness, thus allowing for an effective follow-up priori-tization and a higher deal closing rate.Problem: Sales people working on high-value deals with extended lead cycles, invest a lot of time into nurturing their customer relationships, in order to be present once the customer is finally ready to purchase. Unfortunately, often opportunities are lost because the sales person follows-up too late as a result of poor organisation or miss-ing information. At the same time, sales people waste a lot of time administering and consulting a variety of sales tools, in order to find out (or rather guess) which prospect they should reach out next. This leads to inefficient sales departments and lost opportunities.Solution: Through a single comprehensive list, the SalesWings web application informs sales people automati-cally when their customers reach buying readiness. Through a predictive buying analytics algorithm, SalesWings analyses the web traffic of our client’s website and provides the sales person with a very simple list of his visiting prospects, sorted by their buying readiness and likeliness to close. “Hot leads” come out on top and trigger no-tifications to the user’s mobile app or smart watch. The tracking and sorting is fully automated, and leaves the sales person with the single task to manually favorite his leads and consuming the list conveniently. The result is that customers will get served the moment they have a need for the client’s offering, lower sales management bureaucracy as well as a higher deal closing rate per sales rep.
