Your NEXT Weekend Read Secrets of the Tulip Sisters by Susan Mallery
Kelly and Olivia Murphy may be sisters, but
they've never had much in common. When
their mother left their family and Olivia
was sent away to boarding school, the
divide between them grew.
Now Kelly works with her dad on the family
tulip farm in Washington, while Olivia
works for their mother's real estate
company in Phoenix. Olivia decides to
come back home to reconnect with an old boyfriend and the
sisters must get to know each other as adults. New
relationships are complicated by the past, and Kelly’s best
friend happens to be in love with an older man—Kelly’s dad.
And then their mother comes back to town…
Mallery blends the friendships, family relationships and self-
actualization common to women’s fiction with the racy love
scenes and happy ending of contemporary romance, making
this an excellent read for fans of both genres.

Danielle Steel They might not have Danielle Steel's star appeal (yet!), but
these new and lesser-known romance writers do know a
thing or two about love. Most stories feature contemporary
settings, strong heroines and sensuous love scenes.
They focus not just on romantic relationships, but friendship
and family as well. Quirky pets, oddball relatives and plucky
sidekicks abound! Just perfect if you're looking for a new
author to fall head-over-heels for.

WHAT SHOULD I
READ? A partnership between big-name
publishers and librarians, LibraryReads.org
is an exciting resource for a monthly top
10 list of books.
So what's unique about it? First, the list
includes only books being published the
current month, so the titles are usually
readily available at libraries and bookstores. Second, all the
reviewers are working librarians. Librarians across the
country read advanced copies and share reviews, and the
books with the most recommendations each month make the
list. These aren't just books you'll find on the bestseller lists;
the LibraryReads top 10 list frequently includes debut books
and high quality works by up-and-coming authors of both
fiction and nonfiction.
If you dislike searching through sites with overwhelming
numbers of reviews by unknown reviewers, and just want a
short list of good books to read, subscribe to their newsletter
to get the monthly list delivered to your inbox.

LOCAL History ALIVE! Two Rivers & Pro Football Wednesday, Nov 8 6:00 PM
Located less than 40 miles from Green Bay,
Two Rivers’ connection with professional
football may seem inherent and obvious. But
between 1939 and 1947, Two Rivers had a
more intimate connection with the game as
the preseason training site for several teams.
Two Rivers native Patrick Gagnon examines
the details of those years and those teams.
Gagnon is a retired history instructor &
currently serves on the Two Rivers City
Council.
Honor FLIGHT Tuesday, Nov 7 6:00 PM
This enormously moving documentary
chronicles four WWII veterans and the
Wisconsin community that comes together
to give them the trip of a lifetime.
Most of the men and women who fought
and won the great conflict are now in their
90s. Two Rivers resident Mark Grams is
one of the volunteers who race against the
clock to send veterans to see the
memorials built in their honor. He will
introduce the movie and answer questions
about the Honor Flight Network.

We enjoy the support we receive from the business community for this event that, in

Every May we transform the library into an art gallery when we host the Two Rivers
School District Art Show. The month-long event showcases the amazing talents of
students in our schools, and culminates in an awards ceremony.
Our annual summer reading program is made possible by a windfall of partnerships.
These entities offer reading incentives, sponsor performers and donate their time to
encourage reading and make literacy a reality in this community.

Our relationship with the Herald Times Reporter lets us inform the community of what’s
happening with the library through the publication of our monthly article.
Our “Scholar for Life” series partnership with the University of Wisconsin-Manitowoc
brings professors to Two Rivers for enlightening and entertaining discourse on topics they
are passionate about.
We work with the Two Rivers Historical Society’s Lester Bentley Committee by fostering
its mission of “Bringing Bentley Home.” A rotating collection of the artist’s work is always
on display throughout the library.
We schedule local experts who share their in-depth knowledge of facets of Two Rivers
history through our “Local History Alive!” series.
None of this would be possible without the support of our local government leaders and your
tax dollars. We value our ongoing relationship with City Manager Greg Buckley, the Two
Rivers City Council, and Manitowoc County officials who recognize the value our library has
in this community. As library director, I am grateful to have a good working relationship with
these folks, and to have an active voice as a city department head. Not every librarian is so
lucky.
Lester Public Library is deeply embedded in our community. We appreciate each partnership
listed above, and look forward to future endeavors together. But the partnership we value
most is with each and every one of you; without the public coming through our doors to
share in our collections, programs and services, we have failed in our mission.
So to everyone who has visited the library—whether you came for Story Time, to watch a
movie, to use our computers, or just to work on our communal puzzle—thank you! We’re
glad you’ve discovered something of worth here. To those of you who haven’t visited in a
while, we invite you. We welcome the chance to get to know you, and I hope you’ll find
something here that enriches your life in some way. Your interaction and input will help
improve the library, which in turn enriches the community as a whole. It makes for a great
relationship.

Protecting the Internet: The Mathematics of Passwords
and Data Encryption
Wednesday, Nov 1 6:00 PM
Presented by Dr. Brian Murphy. Today’s society is dependent upon the internet; most of
us rely on it to conduct our day-to-day business. Keeping our information private is, of
course, extremely important. UW-Manitowoc Associate Professor of Mathematics Brian
Murphy relates the history of data encryption from a mathematical standpoint, and he
describes coders’ efforts to keep information private.
Dr. Murphy received a B.S. from Boise State University and his M.S. from Marquette
University. He completed his Ph.D. in biomathematical modeling at Marquette. This public
lecture, in partnership with UW-Manitowoc, provides access to lifelong learning that
enhances our lives and community. This program is free. No registration is required.
