Technology UsedBarcode Technology for identification – Very cost effective

Current Library Management System

Page 4: Library management system using rfid

Drawbacks of Barcode Technology: Barcode readers require a direct line of sight, using laser

technology Scan and read one tag at a time and also time consuming Human intervention is required to scan a barcode It should be visible on the product for scanning Does not have read/write memory The readability of the barcode can be impaired by dirt,

moisture, abrasion and packaging etc.. Less read range & Holds fixed and Limited data. Technology is old and outdated cannot read a bar code if there is any obstacle between the

reader and the bar code

Current Library Management System contd..

Introduction of RFID

Non line of sight technology for identification of objects Robust and reliable in tough environments Bulk detection Bidirectional communication Long read range Vulnerability to damage minimized Inventory efficiency Faster Return on investment (ROI)

Page 6: Library management system using rfid

Reduces Staff stress and increases management efficiency Can help prevent theft Fastest, easiest, most efficient way to track, locate & manage

library materials Efficient Book circulation & management Library inventory tracking in minutes instead of hours Multiple books can be read simultaneously Unique ID of the RFID tag prevents counterfeiting Automated material handling Faster Check-in / Check-out Longevity of Tags – Shelf life equivalent to the Book

Why RFID for Libraries ?

RFID for Libraries – Proposed Models

Blaze proposes Three variants for implementation of RFID for Libraries:

Model –I : Basic RFID implementation for Small and Medium LibrariesModel – II : Advanced RFID based Library Management System for Medium sized LibrariesModel – III : Advanced RFID based LBMS with Security and Surveillance for Modern Large size Libraries

APPLICATIONSAPPLICATIONS

Page 17: Library management system using rfid

Handheld Reader RFID Hand Held reader - Integrated with

long distance laser barcode scanner and provides with handwriting input, support signature capture function

A compact and light weight hand held device

Comfortable to use High storage capacity Multi Functional (such as shelving,

sorting, searching, weeding and reading) Enhanced Security.

HARDWARE – RFID Hand held Reader

Robust industrial-class platform

Support for 4 (XR440) or up to 8 (XR480) read points facilitates decreased deployment complexity and increased flexibility of RFID implementations

Enterprise connectivity through control I/O ports

Fixed Reader

XR 480- works in your large-scale RFID solution and enjoy maximum functionality for high-performance reading and writing and efficient radio frequency communication

HARDWARE – RFID Fixed reader

RFID Antennas AN 480- Contains Single Port, offers

maximum performance and flexibility.

The antenna offers the environmental sealing required to enable indoor and outdoor use

Wide frequency range

Low axial ratio is nearly 50 percent lower and delivering a more uniform gain and better performance.

HARDWARE – RFID Fixed reader Antenna

ERP solution + Database Maintenance A low cost ERP solution will be chosen to manage the books

in an efficient way with proper maintenance of database.Software for Handheld reader This software is used to search the books, issue the books

and for the audit of the books.Software for Fixed reader This software is used for theft detection and the alarm goes

ON if any such case of theft detected. App for Sequence tag generation with encryption

facility (EPC Generation)This software generates EPC and prints the same onto the labels.

SOFTWARE

Page 26: Library management system using rfid

Every book should be tagged with RFID Inlays / Labels One or two Librarians will be responsible for the

issue of the books and return of books in case of Model – I. Where as Model – II and III can be completely automated.

RFID Hand held reader can be used to conduct audit process which will be helpful for inventory management of Library

Searching of the books is very easy even in Large Libraries

SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTSIMPLEMENTATION

Page 27: Library management system using rfid

Libraries: Stock management Improved patron services Flexibility and modularityLibrary Staff: Less time needed for circulation operations Efficient Inventory management Reducing Repetitive Stress Injuries (RSI)

SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTSBENEFITS OF USING RFID IN LBMS

Patrons: Patrons will spend less time waiting in check-out

lines by using Self Check in - Check out systems. Patrons find what they are looking for quickly &

easily. Reminders for due dates allows patrons to

submit borrowed materials in time. Uses of book drops & return chutes for returning

library material, allows for flexible timings. RFID enabled patron cards allows for easy patron

identification.

BENEFITS to PATRONS

Page 29: Library management system using rfid

RFID technology is taking off in libraries at an increasingly rapid pace. It is easy to envision that, the RFID tag contents will increase in power, prices are expected to decline and tag will dramatically improve its efficiency, security and accuracy.
