I need to remember, too, that an ambassa-dor's job is to fully and accurately deliver the message of the one who sent him. For a Jesus-ambassador, that Mes-sage is clear: "Nothing except Jesus Christ and Him crucified" (1 Co-rinthians 2:2). That clear message has to be uncluttered by politics, church, religion, per-sonal hobby-horses, culture issues, or life-style attacks. It has to be all about just Jesus and His cross. This Message is so eternally important that it needs to be delivered, not in my churchy "Christianese," but in the non-religious lan-guage of the people I'm there to reach.
There is a risk in-volved. Just ask Jesus, the original and ulti-mate Ambassador of Heaven. He gave His life in exchange for mine. My fear of losing some-one for eternity must trump my fear of what-ever I may lose if I speak up for Jesus.
Pastor David Linkugel
This year as we re-membered the tragedy of September 11, 2001, the news headlines shouted another 9/11 tragedy – the deaths of American ambassador, Chris Stevens, and three of his staff. Killed – as they often say about po-lice officers or soldiers – in the line of duty. It sounds like the man we lost is the kind of per-son we want represent-ing our country. He was proficient in the lan-guage, out among the people, building rela-tionships, and taking risks so people can be free. He was an ambas-sador.
Do you realize that you are an ambassador also? Every one of us who belongs to Jesus is an ambassador. Paul wrote: "We are Christ's ambassadors" (2 Corin-thians 5:20). Current news is a vivid remind-er of exactly what that title means. An ambas-sador is appointed by the highest authority there is (in the case of Chris Stevens, the Presi-dent of the United States) to represent him in a specific place. Sometimes requiring risks and even sacrifice.
You and I have been assigned by the highest Authority in the uni-verse to represent Him wherever He places us. You and I are represent-ing Heaven. That means I must act like Jesus, and respond like Jesus, no matter what my cir-cumstances or treat-ment. There are no ex-cuses for losing my tem-per, being harsh, com-promising my integrity, acting selfish, flirting with sin, or being too busy for people who need me, because I rep-resent Jesus.
I can't stay clois-tered in the "embassy," i.e., the church. I have to do what Jesus did – go outside the walls to meet people where they are. Ambassadors suc-ceed or fail depending on how well they build relationships with the people where they're assigned. No true Jesus-ambassador can be con-tent just to hang out with those from their spiritual "country." We've got to be inten-tional, even passionate, about building authen-tic relationships with the people who need our Jesus.

“The Power of a Simple Gift”
Pray!” We will give you detailed instructions how to pack a Christ-mas Child shoebox—it is fun, easy, and fairly inexpensive. Then we will ask you to pray, which also hap-pens to be fun, easy, and absolute-ly free! Please look and listen for more information about this terrific opportunity to share the good news of Christ’s birth with a child. Contact Lisa Frank or any member of the Evangelism Ministry Action Team for more information.
In October, Lord of Life will join with Samaritan’s Purse Ministry to demonstrate the power of a simple gift. Samaritan’s Purse has a goal of reaching out to children all over the world through Operation Christmas Child. This ministry effort has pro-vided over 93 million Christmas gifts to children since 1993! Our hope is that Lord of Life can help make the goal of 100 million lives touched since the beginning of this ministry.

Children’s Christmas Program
In the next couple of weeks, you
will hear a lot about bearing fruit be-
cause our stewardship theme for this
year is Bearing Fruit for Jesus.
Fruit trees are one of the many won-
ders of God’s creation. To see the
beauty of the tree and its fruit, to en-
joy its taste, and to realize that it all
came from a tiny seed is almost be-
yond our comprehension. An apple
seed is planted in the ground, and,
with water and sun as nourishment,
miraculously a seedling surfaces that
develops into a fruit tree. After a pe-
riod of time, the apple tree fulfills its
mission by bearing apples.
We, as Christians, are like that
apple tree. We, too, have been fed
and nourished by God so we can bear
fruit. “You did not choose Me, but I
chose you and appointed you to go and
bear fruit—fruit that will last” (John
15:16). Jesus tells us “I am the Vine;
you are the branches. If a man remains
in Me and I in him, he will bear much
fruit; apart from Me you can do noth-
ing” (John 15:5). The life and power of
any plant is found in its vine. The vine
uses the branches to produce its fruit.
The branch is simply a growth of the
vine, produced by it and appointed to
bear fruit. The branch exists only be-
cause the vine makes it possible.
Fruit characterizes the life of the
Christian steward. When we stay
firmly connected to Jesus, we are
told that we “will bear much fruit.”
Christ has given us the task of min-
istering to the needs of others and
spreading the Gospel. As we stay
connected to Him through His
Word and Sacraments, we discover
God’s perfect will for us, and we are
empowered to please Him by bear-
ing fruit (Colossians 1:9-10). God
has created us to bear fruit
(Ephesians 2:10), but only through
Christ is it possible for us to do so.
“Since we live by the Spirit,” Paul
exhorted, “let us keep in step with the
Spirit. Let us not become conceited,
provoking and envying each oth-
er” (Galatians 5:25-26). As children
of God, we have this fruit because
His Spirit lives in us, not as a result
of our own efforts. We do cease to
bear fruit when we give in to our
sinful natures, becoming, in Paul’s
words, “Conceited, provoking and en-
vying each other.” We are to “Have
nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of
darkness” (Ephesians 5:11), but are
to “Live as children of light (for the
fruit of the light consists in all goodness,
righteousness and truth) and find out
what pleases the Lord” (Ephesians 5:8
-10).
Go and bear fruit!
