Know and understand your local power company incentive program. KEMA is a federal organization that administers several programs nation wide. KEMA will typically work directly with your local power company.

Schedule for a representative come to your office and explain the program. A rebate, if offered will lower the payback in months which will make your project much easier to sell.

Work directly with your suppliers/ manufactures reps to spec projects and make suggestions. They will try to sell their product if it is not the best option. Work with multiple suppliers and acquire multiple options/ proposals for the same project.

Things that will help improve the $payback$ to the customer:

Low priced, long life dependable product to replace

existing application

Large energy savings

Rebate

Maintenance savings due to warranty, longer life product

or reduced amount of product to maintain

WATT-unit of electrical power: the international SI unit of power equal to the power

produced by a current of one ampere acting across a potential difference of one volt.

(Energy in watt hours is the multiplication of power in watts and time in hours.)

Example:

H175 Fixture = 206 running watts including ballast

2 Lamp T5 H.O. (high output) = 117 running watts

LUMEN- The lumen (symbol: lm) is the SI unit of luminous flux, a measure of the

power of light perceived by the human eye. Luminous flux differs from radiant flux,

the measure of the total power of light emitted, in that luminous flux is adjusted to

reflect the varying sensitivity of the human eye to different wavelengths of light.

Example:

H175 = 14,000 lumens brand new. 20-30% degradation of light output/lumens after 3

months of life which would be 9800 of lumens after 3 months of burn time. The

luminosity output will continue to degrade as the lamp gets older.

2 Lamp T5 H.O. will stay consistent in its light output/lumen output throughout its

lamp life.

FOOT CANDLE- Measurement of incident light or light striking a surface corrected

by distance and angle.

Example:

H175, directly underneath at 10’ high = 22.08 foot candles

T5 H.O. (high output) directly underneath at 10’ high = 22.6 foot candles

KWH-The kilowatt hour, or kilowatt-hour, (symbol kW·h, kW h) is a unit of energy

equal to 1000 watt hours.(The kilowatt hour is most commonly known as a billing unit for energy

delivered to consumers by electric utilities.)

Example - NV Energy charges 8.5 cents /kilowatt hour for hotel properties and 10

cents per residential.

KELVIN TEMPERATURE

The kelvin is often used in the measure of the color temperature of light sources.

The photosphere of the Sun, for instance, has an effective temperature of 5778 K
