Dear Parents and Guardians,
Greetings to all as we begin the hectic month of May! First, I’d like to inform you that NWEA
MAP’s Computer Testing for students in grades 2-4, in math and reading, will take place from
May18-29. Please remember to have your child get a good night’s sleep and eat a good breakfast
on the days he/she is testing. Also it is extremely beneficial to join us in encouraging him/her
to do well on the test by taking the appropriate time to read the passages, questions and possible
answers carefully before answering. Additionally, students in grades 4K-2 will be taking the
PALs Test May 11-22. This is a state test that is given mainly in a one on one setting with your
child’s teacher. For both types of testing, classroom teachers will let you know of specific
testing schedules for their classes. If you have any questions on either opportunity for our stu-
dents, please let me know.
Kindergarten Visitations will be held for students entering Kindergarten for the 15-16 school
year on Friday, May 15th. There will be two sessions that day: 9:00-10:30 a.m. and 1:00-2:30 p.m.
Parents should have received a registration form in the mail. If you did not get one and would
like to attend, please contact the Lincoln Elementary Office at 982-8540. If you have received
the Kindergarten Visitation form, but have not yet returned it, please do so as soon as possible.
At the meeting we’ll discuss all the things that will make your future Kindergartner successful
next school year!
On staff note, I regretfully inform you that Mrs. Corene Strohfeldt, will not be with us next
year. She has taken a position with the Appleton School District, working in one school,
3 minutes from her home. We wish her well in her new endeavor but will miss her immensely.

If planning a party at home and students wish to invite class members, please phone the
invitations or mail them directly to the home rather than handing them out at school. We

Music ~ With Mrs. Benjamin ~ April 2015 Where has the year gone? It’s hard to believe we are in the final weeks of the school year. We
have had a lot to sing and be happy about in music class!
All classes have also been discovering instruments of the orchestra by learning or reviewing their
names and sounds. We have also studied classical music and such composers as Mozart, Vivaldi, and
Tchaikovsky.
Third and fourth graders continue to practice the recorder. Third graders are becoming
more and more proficient at reading in treble clef and playing B, A and G’s. Fourth graders are working
hard on passing “Recorder Karate” belts and a few might get to black belt before the school year is
through!
Names will be announced next week for the “Star Spangled Reading
Challenge.” Third and fourth grade winners will be singing the National Anthem at the
June 3rd Timber Rattler Family Night game.

Happy May Parents and Friends, It feels like just yesterday that this school year began, and now we are on the final stretch! The students have come a long way since the beginning of the year. I now like to treat our 4th graders like they are 5th graders, our 3rd graders like they are 4th graders and so on down the line. I have set my expectations a little bit highers towards the end of the year and the students have been stepping up and doing a great job. We recently completed our final fitness testing with grades 2-4, which is a great accomplishment. I am truly so proud of the way the students gave their best efforts for our final testing. A lot of students made some huge strides in each of the fitness tests, while several stayed the same in some areas. I will be sending home the their Physical Education Fitness Report within the next two weeks for you to take a look at. Please return to school. K & 1 have been doing a wide variety of fitness testing as well. These students were not scored on their testing, but exposed to what the “bigger kids” do for their testing for next year or in two years. We did the partner PACER, the shuttle run, flexed arm hang and Sit & Reach. With nice weather approaching, we will try to get outside as much as possible. We have already been outside a couple of times this spring and the students really enjoy letting their energy out then. Our students have come so far this year, it is awesome to see the growth in so many students physically, mentally, socially, and emotionally. Let’s finish the year out strong!

Lincoln students are being recognized for their “GOOD MAN-
NERS”. Each classroom teacher nominates 1-2 students who
have been good role models of good manners to their peers.
Then twice a month, those students eat their lunch with a
teacher. They are given a small token and a certificate in recog-
nition and appreciation.
